I have just sent the video to a friend who still works at a major airport. He commented that over the last 18 months airports have been inundated with “asylum seekers” from South America ( mainly Honduras). They travel via Madrid, so where they speak the same language. Why not claim asylum there? Some of the answers he has received “ we are treated better here” Spain do not give us houses” “ don’t want to be there as full of South Americans!”. Edited by Spiderman (11 Mar 2023 9.12am) All possible incentives need to be removed. People should get food and a roof over their heads of some type. The necessities for life. There is absolutely no reason why someone fleeing from genuine danger would not accept that.

This has increased significantly since 2016, I wonder why that is? Ah the old, blame Brexit! How about blaming Schengen, which removed all border checks throughout Europe? So migrants can travel from country to country with no checks, or Merkels open door policy. That is working well. Edited by Spiderman (11 Mar 2023 12.43pm)

It is not uncommon for claimants to claim they are a nationality that would, in general, by accepted. Years ago Nigerians claimed to be Liberians. More recently South Africans claimed to be Zimbabwean, don’t forget they rarely have any genuine documentation .

I don't disagree that the situation is out of hand and the costs are ridiculous. What I don't agree with is the absurd assertion that it is deliberate. I have still seen nothing from Sir Kier other than waffle on what Labour would actually do. As usual they only say they wouldn't do what the Government is doing. I would happily support any party that comes up with a solution. Edited by HKOwen (11 Mar 2023 6.19am) Bingo. On the bottom line.

The Institute for Government (IfG) said there was little evidence to suggest the Prime Minister’s claims the Illegal Migration Bill, would be a “deterrence” to Channel migrants will work. Instead the laws are likely to prove “extremely difficult” and “costly” to implement, lead to legal challenges and cause “real human harm”, the think-tank said in an unusually frank report. Polls show some support for Sunak but hardly anybody thinks it work. Just heard George Osborne quite annoyed that brexit has lost control of our borders and handed a half billion payment to France.

It won’t work, for a number of reasons.

There is a single solution. The UK withdraws from the ECHR. Any and everybody who turns up in the UK illegally is flown out for processing in Rwanda within 72 hours. Within a matter of days, the flow slows to barely a trickle. That sorts it. Sunak does not want to sort it. He wants to merely pretend he wants to sort it. It really is that simple.
