Roy has not been backed at all and since he's been at the club we have made a profit of about £25m in player sales and let a lot of players go on frees or return to their parent clubs and not replaced them. However, his reluctance to play to our strengths and his unwaivering loyalty to certain players could be his downfall here. To not have got in a striker this window is criminal. I feel sorry for Roy but even with a change in formation and style at this point still doesn't hide the fact that we don't appear to have a striker at the club who is capable of getting more than 5 goals a season at the moment. I don't think playing to Benteke's strengths would change that either.

I was too angry with yesterday's "performance" to post anything when I got back from the game last night. It was very noticeable at the game the lack of signing & the resigned comments regarding the substitutions. We urgently need to get some effort into midfield & leave Benteke out, otherwise we will get relegated. it looks like RH has no clue what to do once the game has started to get away from us. We cannot rely on 3 teams being worse than us to save us, we need to be proactive in our endeavours to stay up.

The worst thing about today’s defeat is that once again we were so boring ! Roy’s tactics bore the pants off me and he is so predictable- sub brought on today after 63 minutes - again !!!!! When things weren't working Roy should have tried changing the formation slightly in the 2nd half by putting Zaha on the wings and Meyer centrally. He should have taken off Benteke and brough in Ayew early.

Sheff.U only had one other real chance and that was given to them by van Aanholt losing possession in a ridiculous place so for all their hard pressing our defence was solid in actual defending with great blocks and bodies in the way when you actually think about it. Far too optimistic a reading. We did not have a single clear chance and only a few openings. They had far more of both. The start of the second half was especially depressing. I was waiting for us to up the intensity and put SU on the back foot. That is precisely what they did to us. After that we had no attacking ideas beyond hoof it to Tekkers, or give it to Wilf or Andros and see what they could do. With nil result.

All great ideas, change this change that but RH is a very experienced manager. The board have NOT backed him in any shape or form during his tenure. SP and the owners are and will carry on taking us downward until RH gets the backing he needs. Tekkers was not his idea so IMO back RH or we have to accept the inevitable.

What you say is true but if Roy won’t make best use of what he has then.... I guess we’ll find out soon. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but we’re not going to suddenly get players in now, unless a decent scorer come in on loan, but as someone else said, Parish isn’t going before Roy and I doubt Freedman will either. It’s not Roy’s fault but he’s not making it any better for himself. Edited by Rudi Hedman (19 Aug 2019 10.02am)

A workman is only as good as his tools, and RH has got a very limited bag to work with. Whatever way the playing tactics are juggled I fear the result will be the same. The problem lies with SP and his unwillingness to properly invest in the squad now. Newcastle get all the headlines for Mike Ashley's parsimonious stewardship but SP is running him neck and neck. We look toothless with many players who would struggle in the Championship.

The issues are two fold....lack of investment and poor transfer policy. The yanks are causing massive unrest at the minute wanting out and witholding much needed investment as a result. That means any money we get in is either being used to pay down debts or to line their pockets before they feck off. As for transfers...we made two GOOD acquisitions in Cahill and Camarassa...so why aren't we playing them. However in general our transfer policy is awful...we should be bringing in players to cover for those being sold...we knew either AWB or WIlf was going as did the club...so why not get on with this? The reason being that we needed the money to come in BEFORE we could then afford to buy anyone..getting stripped for the price in the process. Again this is down to the Yanks not paying their way...it all comes back to them. The sooner we have new investors come in the better...problem is would they be any better?

But if we get relegated their original investment will evaporate and be worth half or even less. As it stands they must be around break even if most of the AWB money has been used to pay off director loans. Or the director loans can now be paid off when cash flow allows it more now following the AWB sale. Unless the relegation loss maybe less or more likely not that much more than propping the squad up with loaned funds again in January. I think the US investors weren’t expecting this need for squad investment and with the mistakes by Parish and emergency repairs it’s been a problem we’re stuck with since one or two or theee big repair jobs that have caught up with us, or Parish to be precise.

Durham on Talksport before the season started tipped us to go down and this game as a 6 pointer. I laughed at both but he was probably right
