All very well but at what point does it stop? Answer. It won't. It can only increase unless we enforce much tougher restrictions. A break from EU regulations and a reduction in numbers from Africa and Asia is required. And removal of a significant number of those already here.

Jeebers. You seemed to say that infrastructure like schools and doctors were built after houses because of migration. I said it was down to bad planning. Whilst I concede that migration affects housing it's got jack all to do with building infrastructure after houses are built. Are you suggesting that we would have no housing crisis if there were no migrants? Are you suggesting it's migrants' fault that the government house building programme has been nothing short of s***? Next it'll be Johnny foreigners fault that your broadband was down for an hour last week.

You did specify it was for yourself with a £50k salary and £10k, but I take the point. The problem is more likely to be your deposit than your salary actually. £10k is likely to be between 3% and 4% on the sort of properties you'd be looking at. And most lenders will be reluctant to lend with less than 5% and ideally 10%. And possibly your age I suppose if you've already been working 30+ years. Edited by OknotOK (16 Nov 2016 5.16pm) Indeed, which is the crux of my point. I can get a mortgage and, despite the fortunate position I now find myself in, property ownership in the SE is inaccesible (perhaps a better semantic choice than "unaffordable" ). What does that mean for other income groups? Anyway, enough finger pointing. My view is that blaming this situation on EU freedom of movement conveniently moves the focus away from years of government's economic policies which have entrenched multiple property ownership as the one guaranteed way to generate decent returns on wealth. Apologies for earlier outbursts of sarcasm. Edited by Mr_Gristle (16 Nov 2016 8.35pm) Edited by Mr_Gristle (16 Nov 2016 8.40pm)

You'd pay less than that per month on a 225K mortgage, at present fixed term rates. True. Mortgage advisor here, almost all the first time buyers I see end up paying less on their first mortgage than they did on rent, whilst upgrading the quality of property.
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. |
