Firstly, I didn't describe you as a "foot soldier". I merely used an analogy. I have no idea what rank you rose to. Secondly, you have now modified your assertion to the majority, which although extremely unlikely also allows the possibility that 49% are competent. In my experience most senior managers in any business can transfer their skills to another related, but not identical one. What's required is a grasp of man-management, resource allocation, time scales and budgetary control etc etc. The detail is delegated to the specialists who work for you. Routinely changing such people keeps the departments fresh and from complacency setting in. So 52% is a majority. It is obvious you know better than someone who has seen it first hand so there seems little point in discussing it further

That’s one view. Personally I found a frequently changing stream of senior managers extremely detrimental. Any reservations about their often daft ideas was dismissed as “being negative”. The fact that a lot of their ideas had been previously found to fail was ignored. Spot on. They build up no experience by moving around to different departments that are totally different to each other. They refuse to listen to those with experience and the attitude is “don’t tell it cannot be done, it will be done” disasters galore. Access to staff surveys should lead some on here to believe the “foot soldiers” may actually be right about them

At least one of the newspapers has a double page spread with loads of photos of socialising and the headline, ‘May as well.’ It’s this kind of sanctimonious shyte that’s the problem, not someone who looked after his son, kept a distance and apart from everyone, including his elderly parents who lived in a different building. Everybody knows who’s vulnerable and at risk now. To start pointing the finger on the possibility that a load of people not at risk might die is so pathetic but expected. If people do start to ignore the rules and there is a resulting spike in new cases (and deaths) it won't be Cummings' fault but the media, especially the BBC who just won't let it go. Hopefully at today's press briefing whoever fronts it will refuse to answer any more Cummings related questions

Are you really missing the point? The rules have changed since Cummings made his trip but that's not the point. The point is that by allowing him to break the rules by finding all kinds of excuses and exceptions will impact on how others behave. Whether they should, or not, is another matter. Cummings ought not to have done so but he did, and so will others as a consequence of his example and Johnson condoning it. If the suggestion is that this will lead to more deaths than by taking a firm line with Cummings (whether you believe that firm line is justified or not) then firm line it has to be. How can they say it will lead to more deaths? It may do but there is as much chance that it won’t. Are these the same scientists that said there was scientific evidence to prove that, if my daughter visited us, she could meet only one of us at a time? That, imo, was one of the most ridiculous “rules” published.

The rest, largely, he admits. The big stuff like taking a child apparently exposed to the virus to a hospital 260 miles away. Talk about clutching at straws.
