I find it difficult to believe the narrative on both sides, which is why I largely stay out of this sort of debate. The truth is probably best found by taking the opposite view to what you are being told such is the level of mis and disinformation these days. Might be too cynical a view, but then again maybe not.

Just follow battleground reports. People can't lie for long about who holds what ground.

He might have said it. The thing is, everyone now knows America , and Europe, no longer have the stomach to be the police force of the world.
Ukraine and Taiwan have shown this.
America will just adopt the role of arms supplier, as it already is to Israel.
The outcome of the conflict is not really important in wider world conflicts, as long as the arms companies get paid.

Pretty much.

The threat is a little speculative as it makes three assumptions....That Russia attacks and invades Nato countries, that funding the war leads to a better outcome for Ukraine/west and that we all don't get nuked...and a fourth that modern Americans would countenance fighting in Europe again....these aren't the same people of generations ago.

It's always been unrealistic to think that Russia will try to hold areas that don't contain Russia aligned populations. No one takes that seriously and if they had you would have seen European defence spending jump to war economy levels.

I think in truth what we are seeing is that.....much like with running again against Trump....Biden's ego is wrapped up in beating Putin and he won't let it go until he's forced to.

Low quality elites.

The problem has always been that the higher the responsibility the lower the accountability. The 'failed upwards' meme.

I want to come back on this because there's another point that I think is relevant to this specific aspect you raise.

America is very much split into two divergent camps politically so they are always going to have problems with cohesion over major foreign policy decisions like funding other people's wars.

However, the major point to America's influence reducing on the world stage is financial reality.....some can point to 'woke' being unpopular in much of the non western world....but states will look the other way if you pay them.

No, the real threat to globalisation and the slow march towards joined up world government that so many neoliberals and leftists want is financial.

Both China and the US can't continue their economies in quite the same way....the US sooner than China but both are storing up considerable trouble for themselves.

That's the way back in for the natural state of man, which is the nation state and small 't' tribalism.

In time the 'woke' gets put to sleep......because the hegemony
of the US falters both culturally and financially.

Nearly half of Republicans think the U.S. is helping Ukraine too much - The Washington Post

Ukraine receives too much assistance from the United States, believes about half of the representatives of the Republican Party. This is evidenced by the results of a survey by the Pew Research Center.

Such figures indicate a sharp shift in public opinion in the United States regarding the Ukrainian conflict and point to a deep "party" split on this issue among Americans, according to the Post.

Forty eight percent of Republicans believe that it is necessary to provide less assistance to Kiev, but only sixteen percent of supporters of the Democratic Party agree with this. At the very beginning of the conflict, only nine percent of Republicans and five percent of Democrats thought so.

As was stated by sensible people Ukraine could never win a long attritional war against Russia.

This should have been negotiated a long time ago and hundreds of thousands are dead because of low quality elites who seemingly can't play chess and operate on emotional response and high risk strategies.

Hiya Stirls,

What do you make of this . . . [Link]

I, for one, have now lost all support for Ukraine coz of him being there & supporting Milei. Argentina WILL start another war for the Falklands, I was there in '82.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

As a proud 13 year old lad I watched you and your comrades sail off from Southampton. What our forces, dead and alive, achieved was the last roar from the British lion. You were part of a different nation that is rapidly disappearing before our eyes as older men.

If Milei intends to take the Falklands it'll be years away as of yet. He would need to build his military to do it as the island has been built up.

However the threat has always been real and it's always been a matter of time before it's attempted again.

As a 26yo(god), I never got to feel the national pride in Soton, I was flown out via Ascension Island to join my old bucket HMS Sheffield, lest we forget.

Thank you for your reply & thoughts, I hope to god your right, I don't trust them & never have.
