Just found this which is obviously the same source as I heard today on the radio:-
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Just because someone may not like Cummins, doesn't necessarily make them a lefty. Yup. They make engines for both left and right hand drive trucks.

They have written headlines, which they know most readers don't read beyond....they have written headlines that present unproven claims as statements. Dirty dirty smear merchants and their reputation is richly deserved. Less the forth estate and more a grubby, unkempt and smelly bungalow. The press conference will change little, people who were supporting him before will continue to, people who weren't will continue to. Some Tories voters may have been swayed by the press conference but it's main purpose was to rally the base who were already in support of Cummings against the media, by the looks of some of the posts on here it has done that. Largely I think, they were preaching to the converted. He will still stay on but he is now a household name and they will make things more difficult for the government moving forward. One things for certain, if I had been experiencing problems with my vision, I wouldn't have loaded up my child and wife into my car and driven on an hour round trip. That seems reckless at best. It was his wife’s birthday. He’s done wrong here, but I wouldn’t say it’s a sackable offence to be keeping away from everyone on a bench.

Unhappy that he's been grassed up by the curtain twitchers, but Dominic? Nothing to see here, says Boris.

I have been out all day. I haven't seen or heard the Cummings statement and questioning, nor read any news reports about it. Yet. I have though skimmed through the last few pages of this thread and got the drift. What I did hear today was one of the "SAGE" government experts on the radio. I didn't catch his name but he is a behavioural scientist whose job it is to advise how we will respond to rules and requests. It was his view that Cummings has made it much more difficult for the next stage of the lockdown release to proceed as planned. Getting people to now follow the rules is likely to be very much more difficult. He was fuming and said that the probable outcome of Cummings not being sacked over this was that more people would now die. That is a very serious accusation which, in my opinion, is going to become the big news in the coming days. That simply cannot be allowed to happen. If sacking Cummings saves just one life then it needs to be done, whether you have any sympathy for him or not. If Johnson fails to do that then that accusation will not go away until he does. The pressure will just continue to mount from both within the Tory ranks, the opposition and the press. It will divert attention and break the consensus. It's a no brainer. He has to go. Toughing it out cannot be an option if lives are on the line. At least one of the newspapers has a double page spread with loads of photos of socialising and the headline, ‘May as well.’ It’s this kind of sanctimonious shyte that’s the problem, not someone who looked after his son, kept a distance and apart from everyone, including his elderly parents who lived in a different building. Everybody knows who’s vulnerable and at risk now. To start pointing the finger on the possibility that a load of people not at risk might die is so pathetic but expected. What is actually required is encouragement to start doing the things we used to do but a bit carefully. If a load of people act on a newspaper or other media and social media telling them to mix as normal because someone drove 260 miles to keep his son in the family network and sat on a bench near nobody at all then it tells you all you need to know about said people. This from the media hounding DC for being irresponsible in the first place. I expect Piers Morgan to be the first and all the itv moronic viewers to do as the w&nker says.

Ironically, it was the Tories that cancelled Leveson 2... We haven't had Tories worthy of the name since the eighties. The modern day Tories are neo liberals who just happen to be more fiscally conservative than the loony left....though they can't even really hold that distinction now. A real Tory is a social conservative who is interested in conserving more than just their house price....and currently no party exists for them. What makes Cummings interesting is that he's the first figure in decades who wants to shake up our institutions and if nothing else it'll be interesting to see what happens. Are you really missing the point? The rules have changed since Cummings made his trip but that's not the point. The point is that by allowing him to break the rules by finding all kinds of excuses and exceptions will impact on how others behave. Whether they should, or not, is another matter. Cummings ought not to have done so but he did, and so will others as a consequence of his example and Johnson condoning it. If the suggestion is that this will lead to more deaths than by taking a firm line with Cummings (whether you believe that firm line is justified or not) then firm line it has to be.
