Id say compounded rather than caused. The housing market has been out of control for well over two decades. Freedom of movement has amplified this but caused it probably not. Semantics dear boy. Houses are being built all over the place but how can you resolve a problem that keeps increasing? The only answer is to reduce immigration. The alternative is to have a country which ultimately becomes one giant conurbation.

Only 142,900 built in 2015 and 21% less in 2014 I checked it and frankly its pathetic. In 1968 Harold Wilson's labour government got 468,00 homes built. I think that surprised me too!!

Didn't Wilson's government oversee the building of lots of sub standard blocks of flats in inner cities? Be careful what you wish for comrade.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

There's plenty of flats from the 60's in south london unaffordable for most - and unavailable too.

All homes built today must conform to building regs. so that is no longer a problem (I hope) of today so we need a very ambitious target and a determination to deliver homes for everybody - 2 billion in the autumn statement will not be anywhere near enough.

You haven't answered my question. When you say everybody, you must mean everybody who comes here in their hundreds of thousands every year.

That's why the plug sockets are halfway up the f***ing walls. "Affordable homes" is one of the stupidest f***ing phrases ever, they cost what they cost and everyone can afford one with a job and a mortgage. Maybe not the exact one you want, but that's not the point when it's a "need".

Sorry I didnt see your reply. Yes I mean everybody should have a home - this is 2016 why not and hopefully a surplus of homes. Immigration is a separate matter the tories have failed to meet their target of 100,000 each year its actually 300,000 they have to put the matter right no idea why not. It is not illegal for any country to have its own immigration policy there is no enforcement except fines which we would not pay surely in the present circumstances. Like Hungary you just have to do it. IMO of course.
