I think the bit in bold is closer to it - that does still make an interesting dynamic where people express strong views against the BBC whilst clearly still seeing some value in it's reporting.

I agree with you it's important to distinguish between criticisms of the model, and allegations of bias, in these exchanges - I think there are many reasonable criticisms of the model.

I agree, the business model for the BBC doesn't work at all. Largely because content is digested very differently to how it was 40 years ago.

Ironically the licence fee isn't enough to keep the BBC working in the current market, hence why they set up BBC Studios to subsidise the shortfall, and it will continue to fall behind. Their salary brackets are leagues behind other broadcasters. Most terrestrial channels have lost on average 20% of their commercial revenue in the last 12 months, which has meant that huge swathes of people are unemployed in the industry. Commissioners are very reticent to commission new projects and many are simply airing the deluge of crap that was created as a backlog during Covid in case we went back into lockdown.

I personally think the BBC should reduce it's public service solely to Radio, News, Events and then fully commercialise it's Sport and Entertainment arms. Allow businesses to invest, providing they meet strict regulations that align with the BBC's Reithian values.

As a worldwide organisation, very few have a stronger reputation globally. I would leverage that to attract big sponsorship packages that allow the BBC to bid again on the likes of the Premier League, the Ashes, Formula One, etc.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

they really don't ever learn do they - this is a really bad optic and they deserve to be lambasted by the Government - but they won't be.

Whoever thought there would be paedos at the BBC? They must use the same recruitment agency as the Catholic church.

The BBC barely reporting the loss of the winter fuel allowance.
Had Jeremy Hunt done this it would have been front page news!

I've just gone on the BBC News home page and it's the headline story other than the horrific Southport story.

Get a grip.
