I have a good friend who is the executive director of one of the BBC’s most successful long running dramas. He has won a BAFTA. So I am reasonably well informed on how the BBC approach their responsibilities. Previous to this he wrote scripts for several of the longest running shows and the lengths that were gone to to get inside the subject are very impressive. Deciding story lines that illuminate areas of current interest is treated very seriously and then great effort is made to present all viewpoints.

I worked for the BBC for many years and I would agree that the institution takes its responsibilities very seriously.

And so it should, but it doesn’t mean it’s unbiased.

Well in all my years of broadcast at the BBC there was only one moment I felt that a producer was being biased, and even then I'm not sure it was bias but more sensationalist.

Seemingly a friend for every situation.

I'm not sure it's possible to come across as unbiased to the people who complain about the BBC's impartiality.

You can't please puritanical millenials & gen-z, whilst appeasing reductive and belittling boomers.

Both groups are the types of people who nit pick at poor spelling mistakes to undermine a point, rather than take the time to understand where the other is coming from and engage in a healthy dialogue.

The fact that neither of those camps are happy is probably a fair indication that the silent majority in the UK are actually quite happy with the balance of the BBC's reporting.

As the saying goes "being the loudest person in the room, doesn't make you right"

Thanks for the confirmation.

What some here fail to realise is the difference between individual beliefs and corporate responsibility. They also get upset that their biases are not given the prominence they think they deserve.

I think it’s obvious that the BBC strive for balance and that, as professionals, their employees leave their personal beliefs at home.

My friend who used to work for the Mail is no fan of the populist right, but he knew what was required of him to do his job. He didn’t own the paper. He worked for it.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Joking aside , are we supposed to take a post from someone who claims to have worked at the BBC , no mention of department or period etc, and is an opinion, as some kind of proof the BBC is fine and dandy.

For anyone to treat such a post as confirmation of their bizarre opinion is doubling down on bizarre.

Funny isn’t it. If it suits an agenda the word is gospel
