New British defence minister has no defence experience.

Sunak hands election to Starmer as MPs ask: does ‘Spreadsheet Shapps’ know the difference between a fighter jet and a tank?

Tory MPs not happy, Ben Wallace was regarded as a competent safe minister.

Yes, you were constantly posting that he was a competent, safe minister.

Off topic but if people were assigned roles according to their strengths rather that a reward for loyalty, we might get a better government.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

Liz Truss in FO being a good example.

On Ukraine I am split. On one level I back their resistance to Russia for more reasons than I have space to give here. On another, I would very much like Ukraine to have a better government.

The historic parallel that comes to mind is WWII Poland. An awful military junta before the panzers rolled in. An inconvenient fact conveniently forgotten given it was the poor Poles who were crushed between two deadly superpowers.

I guess my point is that you can say what you like about the Ukraine government, but thoughts should really be with the Ukraine people.

I'd agree with a lot of that......though I probably differ with you on where the bulk of the blame for where we are lies.

As for WW2, I love Dad's Army and in a lot of ways revere the bulk of that generation, however there are a lot of lies, half truths and omissions around WW2 that I certainly wasn't told growing up......Indeed, you get taught the 'Dad's Army' patriotic perspective (some of which I'm proud of) but it hides a lot of what actually happened. And when I looked at it with fresh eyes as an older more experienced adult I was shocked at the lesser told and omitted truths.

This war carries a lot of the same simplistic one eyed narrative fed to us and in lots of ways I'm deeply cynical and tired of it.

That said, you are of course correct. The real people that deserve our sympathy are the innocents who suffer war.

I see Stephen Fry is visiting that crook Zelensky in Ukraine. Is there actually a war going on?

Would you care to explain what makes Zelensky a ‘crook’?

A crook is a person who is dishonest or a criminal.

'Nothing to be proud of': Ukraine hits out at G20 declaration.

Failure to condemn Russia for the war.

The G20 are, in any case, a waste of space imo, didn't agree on hardly anything else either.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.
