Really pleased to get on here and see posts from the HOLers that I know work in the city - glad you're all ok. And really hope and pray that other people's family and friends are ok too.

I have never been a fan of Ken Livingstone, but I thought it was a very moving, non-scripted speech that he gave, which will have reflected the thoughts of many Londoners.

I am proud to be a Londoner. To live in a society of such diversity. To live in a city which on the whole promotes tolerance.
And I'm especially proud today of the way Londoner's reacted to today's events - the emergency services especially, of course, but also the general public.
We, as Londoners, will continue to go about our daily lives in a land where freedom is important and diversity is celebrated.
"Terrorists", by definition, don't just want to kill people, which sadly they did achieve. They also try to create terror, create fear and panicm which I'd say, in the most part, they've failed to do.

My heart felt condolences go out to every one that has lost a friend or loved one in today's attack. Everyone here in New York knows what you are going through and prays that nothing more happens. To everyone in London, be careful and get home safe.

But, what do you do against a group of people who are willing to blow themselves up to kill you ?
A group like this is not a country that can easily be hit back at.
Im sure there will be some airstrike against some terrorist training camps in non-friendly countries in the new future.

To know thine enemy, is half way to defeating him, and thats the problem, the west dont know their enemy at all, if they did, they wouldnt be doing the crap they are in the middle east.

As to the attack itself, they have tried more dramatic stuff, like chemical, but the more complicated the attack, the more likelyhood of it being found out.
So they resorted to the plain old big bangs, and it worked.

Over here, the CIA's unofficialy viewpoint on terrorist attacks is that sooner or later they will successfully detonate a dirty bomb over here, with 40-80 thousand deaths in the fallout.
Will the US then retaliate with nukes of its own ? and against who ?

Either way, im hoping they deal with these guys the same as they did that IRA cell in Gibraltor many years ago...

Ken Livingstone is a 2 faced f^cker. He always has supported the Arab causes, always criticised the Israeli's.

Well now it should be our turn to act like the Israeli's. As an earlier poster stated you will not get rid of all the terrorists, but you can make sure the bast*rds are always looking over their shoulders. If they kill (without trial) our people, then we kill them without any trial. You fight fire with fire.

And then end up with a neverending war where no-one is safe? Sorry, but that is the dumbest thing I have heard all day.

And anyway, he supports the Arab cause. So what? It's as if you are saying all Arabs are terrorist.

But isn't that what we've got already? The terrorists have shown that they can strike at the heart of the country despite a high level of security. Also, pointing out that Livingstone's stance has always been pro-Arab (which it has) doesn't mean that the poster is suggesting that all Arabs are terrorists.

But why did the poster mention Livingstone's link with the Arabs then? What have the Arabs got to do with a few Muslim extremists?

When is Bakri's next gathering?

Is anything going to be done about scum like him preaching hatred?

I suspect not.

Well, you'll have to ask him that. My interpretation is that he was highlighting Livingstone's sympathy towards a) the Arabs in respect of their dispute with Israel and b) his puzzling approval of various individuals with proven anti-Western agendas.

But that's just my view. It's still a quantum leap in logic to conclude that the poster is accusing all Arabs of being terrorists.

I suspect he'll be 'advised' not to go ahead with it. The police can prevent any such gathering if there are public order implications and, in this case, there sure as sh*t would be.

I did not say all Arabs are terrorists. What i was saying is that Livingstone has actively supported the Arab cause. The Arab cause is, as most people will agree, a difficult one to understand as the different factions within the cause want different things in different countries.

Some use negotiation..I've no problem with that as I believe they are genuine.

Some use terrorism...these are the ones I am talking about.

When Livingstone supports the whole Arab cause he immediately affiliates himself with both sides of the cause. Therefore he is either a complete idiot and doesn't realise the boost his support gives to the Arab terrorist part of their cause or he is a 2 faced f*cker.

Having been in London during the 70's, 80's and 90's I know which one I think is true!!

Quote Dan151 at 07 Jul 2005 7:25pm

Personally, I don't think this is the end of it. They found more devices which didn't go off, and I think the terrorists are sick enough to do the same thing tomorrow, when everyone thinks it is over.

There is no way to win the war on terrorism. If we find/kill Bin Laden, there will just be revenge attacks on the western world. There isno way to remove every single terrorist on the planet, because there will always be more. But what we can do is lower the threat of terrorism.

I know it sounds as if i don't give a fvck about anyone else, but it must have been so easy. There should be metal detectors and a bigger police prescence on public transport to prevent this kind of thing from ever happening again, in this country or in any other

I got told by a Police Officer whilst being shepherded along at Waterloo that Metal Detectors will be out in force (only on tube I think) for all of next week - bit worrying for me as I have a steel plate in my skull and a titanium screw in my jaw!!!
As I was walking over Vauxhall bridge I saw 3 paramedics and one plain car police shoot past all had blue lights, plus my wife told me she heard sirens all the way home (we were on the train) so I assume that something is still happening!!
I shall be working from home tomorrow, office precaution!

Today was an extremely daunting day - how I was supposed to get work done is beyond me ... I am grateful to my boss for trusting me enough to work at home. I hope everyone else has bosses as sympathetic as mine?
I hope that we can learn and build from this and emerge as a new stronger and more powerful London will arise from the ashes of this disaster!

Thought that you may come back with this so I did a bit of research. This is the type of person that Livingstone supports

[Link]

now you may feel that we should just sit back and take these attacks but when do we do something about it? If we do not strike back and strike back hard then God help us all. You say neverending conflict, can't you understand that this is just what terroists want..without it they cease to be important. We can try and negotiate and give in to every demand they have, but when do we say NO MORE!! I feel sorry for people that say be reasonable, be PC. They will carry on doing things they think are furthering their cause, well it is time we did something to protect ourselves.

I don't want to negotiate. What for? We are not even sure what thees people want apart from causing death and distruction. And I don't agree with Political Corectness bollocks either.

What can we do about it. We know next to nothing about Al Quieda. It's not as if they are all based in one country.

They are a terroist organisation with cells in a lot of Country's. Ranging from Afghanistan to Iraq right down to Germany, france and even Britain and still the US. This is despite the attack on the Taliban regime of Afghanistan after 9/11, which achieved nothing if the opposite from what it intended. You say strike back hard. I agree, but it is the way that we do so that worries me. With Al Quieda in so many Countries where do we start? And how? Do I want to bring the people responsible for this to justice. Damn f***ing right I do. I want them locked up in the nastiest (not cushy prisons like ours) conditions possible where they are tortured every day but left in a state where they survive so they can be batterd the next day.

I will be honest. I am worried that if we try and strike back in the same way that America did we would eventually end up in a situation where they strike (like today), we strike in retaliation, then they strike back and on we continue. The outcome? No one is safe and we live in a Country where we are constantly looking over our shoulder. I do not want to live in a paranoid and scared society, which I fear it could become. Nor do I wan't to bring my future Children up where they are constently looking over thier shoulder.

Tommorow I am going to get up, go to work and carry on leading and enjoying my life the way I see fit and am proud to do so.

johnno42000 I apolagise for implying that you think all Arab's are terrorists. In your post this was clearly not your intention, and I apolagise for doing so.
