One can be elated, and relieved, at a much needed victory without concluding that all is 'Rosy in the garden' and a corner has been turned. We will face much greater challenges this season and I suspect there will be more wailing and lamentation on HOL ! Edited by Willo (31 Dec 2023 12.06pm) Probably starting with our next PL game at Arsenal eh Willo?
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

The reason we won yesterdays game was , Olize, and Eze, finally not just back but up to speed at last . That’s not to denigrate the supporting cast they to were at it to. Edited by Putitout (31 Dec 2023 12.18pm)

Yes I agree. I find the elation at a win over an out of form injury stricken team, a little misplaced. I'm relieved we won but the problem remains. As soon as we face a decent team it'll be more of the same old. As for those posters who question the loyalty of anyone critical of Roy or indeed call them trolls, I say the same accusation could be levelled back at them because they want us to continue with the same brand of ugly negative football.

Southgate's enormous ego will have him believe he is nailed on for a bigger club. He would consider Palace in two or three sackings down the line. So before the end of next season!! Just not this summer,

Just not this summer, I have never concluded that he is a gentleman of ego sprouting akin to Clematis Montana. He is certainly no priggish oaf full of grandiosity.

You can wrap our performances in cotton wool all you like, you can berate referees, you can call it bad luck, but at the end of the day statistics don’t lie and our return up until yesterday of 1 home win and 2 wins in 15 matches speaks volumes and was simply not good enough. Yes, we have looked better in the last few games surprisingly against some of the stronger teams but where was that level of effort against Everton, Bournemouth, Luton, Fulham. I’m happy we got a win yesterday because it was badly needed, however we were playing a team which has far more first 11 players missing than us so we should not get carried away with the performance. As someone has already said, we will have a better idea of how our team (with Eze and Olise back), are really playing after our games against Arsenal, Sheffield, Brighton and Chelsea. I predict 4 points from that run of 4 games, but any less than that and I reckon we are right back in it.

I asserted before the Brentford game that had Chelsea not scored their penalty in the dying members of the game there would have been no narrative on HOL in respect of the position of Mr Hodgson. There was an avalanche of speculation and general debate, however following a win against Brentford the discussion apropos his future has disappeared into the ether.I suspect the 'Mood music' is that our manager is here to stay, probably until the end of the season. Its not wrapping results in cotton wool its giving credit were credits due , the Everton and luton games we didnt play that bad we didnt take our chances in them games , Bournemouth game was awful all round even i could have done better at 65 lol , but injurys has played a big part this season to our main players and all teams are hurting some more than others , watch what happens to forest during afcon , we have a chance to see our kids against everton if they do well then Roy will use them better , if he doesnt then i will agree with you but until then i beg to differ COYP

I have concluded that when we have a depleted squad through injuries and lose, it's Hodgson's fault. When we play a club with similar problems,eg Brentford, and beat them, it's because of their injuries. Edited by Willo (01 Jan 2024 9.02am)

Just not this summer, And where do you get this from ? I first met Gareth when he was in the youth team at Palace. And last time was a few years ago where he lives in Harrogate. He's actually a very humble, down to earth guy and certainly no Big Time Charlie.
