He , like many other celebrities, has belittled the real issues of racism for his own pitiful gain.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

What about the anti Semitism? Are you trying to ignore that by any chance? I would, you have already made a complete fool of yourself this week.

I think you may be on to something here. I wouldn't either and nor would, I suspect, most, if not all, of those who post here. We though aren't Asian, and it seems they were, and apparently still are, expected to just accept it as part of the culture. Which is why Rafiq's testimony was so powerful and needs to be listened to. He blames himself, just as much as anyone else, but places most of the blame on the culture. The same culture that permits racist language on building sites as being just "banter". He knows he ought to have complained before and is ashamed he didn't. He knows his colleagues are good people at heart who were just immersed in the culture as much as he was. That culture has changed in many environments but, apparently, not yet in cricket. Which is why he has now spoken out. Not because he wants to hang people out to dry, or receive a pay day. He wants to change the culture. A culture he was as much a part of as anyone else, but one which affected him, and those from a similar background, much, much, more than others. He just had to pretend it didn't. How very naive if you think this wasn't for a pay day.

You'd like that. So that's a pretty good reason on its own not to, but there is an even bigger one. I don't want to. I have plenty of opportunities to exchange views with my Trump supporting friends, and am as big a thorn in their sides as I am in yours. Although not alone here in sticking thorns in your balloons, I take pleasure in doing so. I also learn things. Knowing how the extreme right are thinking is important to me, and you are a valuable source of information, providing links to people I have not previously encountered. 'Extreme right' not on HOL me old fruit.

I certainly wouldn't remain on this platform for the pleasure of p1ssing you off. Weirdo away if you like, it's of no import to me. And another ad hominem! Are you incapable of actually answering my comments? If so, no reply at all is the decent response. What on earth is narcissistic in enjoying exposing hypocrisy and dangerous political ideas? The enjoyment comes from the belief I am making a tiny contribution to the safety and sanity of my country. This is the exact opposite of narcissism, which is "extreme self-involvement to the degree that it makes a person ignore the needs of those around them". It's because I care about others and their future that I resist extreme right sentiment wherever I encounter it. Believe me, if I ever managed to "bore off" a few of the contributors here I would be delighted. The less oxygen some of these ideas gain, the better. Don't flatter yourself. I don't stay here to p*ss you off. It's the ideas that concern me, not who posts them. That you post more than some others is just coincidental.

There are though some, perhaps just a small number, who attitudes, and sometimes the links they provide, lead to the inescapable conclusion that "extreme-right" is the most accurate way to describe them. They would, of course, deny it. No-one believes they are extreme, especially when there are views held by people even more extreme than them. Views that are borderline certifiable.

If you heard it to, and believe that getting something out of it was his motive, then you are very cynical. He freely admits his faults, and that he was both involved and stupid. That's the point. It's not the individuals who are caught up in it. It's a self-perpetuating culture that needs to change, Most people seem to get it. The only place I read from anyone who doesn't yet is here. What does that say about this place?
