How does he know they are not qualified to talk about trans issues? They are both female, one openly gay, who have been involved in top level sport for, possibly, longer than this bloke has been alive. They have both seen the trans lobby try to infiltrate female sport, at first hand. His comments were patronising at best. The comments regarding Jamaican sprinters and Ethiopian runners were idiotic and imo borderline racist

I think the suggestion was that just because they are sports people, one of whom is gay, doesn't mean they are necessarily qualified to talk about transgender issues. There are very few of them and they are all medically qualified. The analogy was clumsy but a side issue to the central point.

Targeting the BBC over a misinterpreted remark by one person doesn't seem to me to be justified in any way.

Precisely. It is astonishing that someone so stupid could be holding such a position of responsibility.

Have you even listened to Navratilova, she knows her stuff. Just because this guy doesn't agree with her opinion he had no right to try and shut her and Sharon Davies down.

PS
Sharon Davies is also employed by BBC sport so I guess he is her new boss, very unprofessional to get into a spate especially when you are senior to her even if this started when you did not work for the BBC.

A row between leftists.

I don't really have much time for Davies or Navratilova, though obviously they are correct about protecting women's sports from mentally ill men, taking female hormones and/or chopping off parts and then competing in their sports.

Apparently some people need a scientist to tell them what a man or woman is.

Mentally fecked up.

Exactly what my wife said ( well with a few expletives). A patronising condescending tone. Is the bloke a mysogonist as well as a racist?

I read the article and could not see what the fuss is all about. It seems to me people are taking offence over an imaginary slur by misinterpreting what was said.

The complaint is that the guy is suggesting two well known athletes aren’t experts on sport, but that was never suggested. What was is that neither are experts on trans-gender issues. Which is true. They are sports people.

Every independent study from sports bodies has found that men competing in women's sports is unfair. Some have set hormone limits - effectively excluding people born as men. Others have outright banned trans athletes at women's events. Others have let people who were previously men compete but have, obviously, faced problems - usually reversing their decisions quickly enough. Even the olympic council has found this - so they don't need to be experts, they can just be casual readers. Rather than the new trans crusader in charge of sports who nobody wants or needs. He could perhaps stick to sports rather than theoretical sociology. Sounds like he knows nothing about sports whatsoever.

It should be astonishing but because it’s the BBC I don’t think anyone is actually astonished !

It’s not hard to realise a woman who had bollox and now has tits and a Fanny and is called Carla instead of Carl is still fitter and stronger than a woman who has her original Fanny and tits.
