Hrofl's problem is he is obsessed by immigration and solely immigration. Ask if "a White boy from Cape Town or a pakistani boy from Croydon is more British" and he is Biggles in a tailspin. There is a possibility that if he lost the fixation there could be actual posts worthy of a proper response. PV is just a moron. You're no snowflake, which I always respect in a poster. Obviously I tend to agree with Hrolf on most things. Where we might differ that's fine.....hell, people make too much of political difference anyway.....it's not like any of us can make the blind bit of difference to any of it. I'm not someone who gets bothered by skin colour because I believe in the individual. That doesn't mean I'm blind to the different statistics on violence and other behaviours connected to different communities. It's just that every individual deserves the right to be judged for their character....similar to what MLK said more than fifty years ago. I'm more interested in allegiance.....perhaps I'm a fool, perhaps I'm right...at the end of the day what I think makes not a jot of difference. All I can do is vote with the ballot box or my feet. But I am an ethnocentrist. I do think the 'west is best' and that cultural relativism is a bag of balls. As a teacher that had me very much a political minority. I kept my mouth shut in the staffroom....but that's alright because it shouldn't be the job of a mainstream teacher to be politically biased anyway....but unfortunately not all of them see it that way. PV's got it in for you.....but surely it's too hot to be angry. Let's just chill and have a cool drink in the sun Edited by Stirlingsays (06 May 2018 5.17pm)

It's not like he ever apologised but was in fact proud of his expansive ignorance.

I am sure we could talk sensibly face to face with a beer, a nice warm pint of wallop (as battle action comics would say) in front of us. I feel the topic ( of British and the UK) is bigger than just ethnocentrism. Many though just can't see past the initial physical issues and a fear of what they do not understand, nor have they properly researched, apart from reading literature which already agrees with their POV.

Yeah, we started off quite combative but we've mellowed. You're alright and if we have a ding dong battle we don't carry it on afterwards into other threads....It would be nice if PV just saw it like that. You and those that agree with you or disagree with you have a right to a voice on the board and I'm happy you post here. Got two kids now, but yeah, when I make it down to London for a few matches in 2019 or 20 it'll be nice to catch a beer.

I didn't say it was a great result for Labour (except in London - as I said earlier best since 1971 here). Neither do I think Brexit was the main issue. What I was saying is that the Tories are going to split over it because there will have to be a compromise which allows trade without hindrance with Europe (Customs union or some other similar arrangement) which will not be accepted by the extreme Brexit people in the cabinet and amongst the Tory MPs. When that moment comes (I would guess around September) one side or the other will not accept the outcome and the split will become manifest. My hunch is that there will be a general election before the year is out.I agree that Corbyn himself will be happy for us to be out of EU because EU rules would make a lot of his programme implement impossible to implement but practically no one in the LP would split over a customs union issue. Personally I don't believe this was a great result for Labour. The next GE is 4 years away (hopefully for Brenda's sake) so it can be argued that this result will be irrelevant to all parties as a week is a long time in politics. Where I will take issue with you is the assumption that it is only the Tories that are split over Brexit. Labour is just as divided, many MPs are Remain whilst their supporters are Brexit. Corbyn was the arch Brexiteer until he became party leader now he walks a tightrope. My guess is that he is hoping that the Tory's will complete Brexit whilst he can complain that it is not the Brexit the nation needs. What is sadly lacking from both the Tory's and Labour is a vision of Britain post Brexit. One final point I don't believe that Brexit was an issue in these elections, well isn't this about local government? True but UKIP were successful in making every type of election about Brexit until Cameron gave them the referendum. Despite the noises from the Remain campaign I see no appetite from the voters to change the result of the referendum. If there is this so called mass support then why no surge for the one party that is Pro EU? The Remainers can complain all they like but until this is reflected at the polls it is just whining.

We can't get that touchy, we have it about right at a low tolerance for swearing. Can't you just get along with Pefwin? I don't think he's a bad person or anything, he just has a different worldview. Or you could just ignore him. It's a beautiful day out there.
