One moment you are part of the silent majority, the next the majority are stupid.

At least the statements aren't mutually exclusive.

The majority never wanted continual EU integration...The politicians of both parties ignored them....they never had a say on it until the referendum....decades into integration far beyond the seventies remit.

So there is a truth to the 'silent majority' description purely because the majority of people aren't that political and are normally centralists.....unsurprisingly.

You could call them 'stupid' politically....though I don't regard them as stupid more as unengaged. They have that right....even if it's not in their self interest. But essentially lots of individuals think that the political process is pointless because one vote is insignificant.

That post really didn't deserve an intelligent response. Well done for not indulging in the frivolity.

I'm as guilty as any of us of indulging in knockabout posts.

There's a place for knockabout and a place for serious commentary.

We are starting to see some good left wing commentary on the site. I want to encourage that, even if I differ, because....despite what some of our critics might say. Hol isn't just for the right....it's for Palace supporters whatever their politics.

What a terrible result. Got 77 extra seats while Tories have a net loss of 33.
It shows how desperate the right wing are when they have to spin Labour's best result in London since
1971 as some sort of disaster for the left. If you compare with local elections in 2017, the results are even better. When the Tories totally split over Europe soon, Labour are poised to take over and to start to roll back the cuts dictated by the super rich and their employees in the Tory Party. I acn't wait to hear the millionaires squealing. .

Everything about him is carefully choreographed spin from his scruffy suits to his beard. The sincerity is clearly false, it’s a means to an end so he and momentum can feed each other’s egos.

Another terrible result for Labour. If you are worried about the working mans rights, get rid of him, then there may be a chance of getting an effective opposition.

Personally I don't believe this was a great result for Labour. The next GE is 4 years away (hopefully for Brenda's sake) so it can be argued that this result will be irrelevant to all parties as a week is a long time in politics.

Where I will take issue with you is the assumption that it is only the Tories that are split over Brexit. Labour is just as divided, many MPs are Remain whilst their supporters are Brexit. Corbyn was the arch Brexiteer until he became party leader now he walks a tightrope. My guess is that he is hoping that the Tory's will complete Brexit whilst he can complain that it is not the Brexit the nation needs.

What is sadly lacking from both the Tory's and Labour is a vision of Britain post Brexit.

One final point I don't believe that Brexit was an issue in these elections, well isn't this about local government? True but UKIP were successful in making every type of election about Brexit until Cameron gave them the referendum. Despite the noises from the Remain campaign I see no appetite from the voters to change the result of the referendum. If there is this so called mass support then why no surge for the one party that is Pro EU?

The Remainers can complain all they like but until this is reflected at the polls it is just whining.

Recently? My dear boy, where have you been hiding?

Indeed, and I have found out that, although, we disagree on a prudent approach to reforming Europe, we actually agree on many things. Although I am more middle of the road than a Labour supporter.

Hrofl's problem is he is obsessed by immigration and solely immigration. Ask if "a White boy from Cape Town or a pakistani boy from Croydon is more British" and he is Biggles in a tailspin. There is a possibility that if he lost the fixation there could be actual posts worthy of a proper response.

PV is just a moron.
