Its baffling isn't it. Especially considering how well Gordon did when he came on last match. Why wouldn't he be the 60 min go to?! There is a theory going around that suggests that Southgate thought we were drawing and hence made late substitutions. Which is unlikely but his choice of putting on Toney with seconds to go is equally baffling. So in some senses him thinking the Foden goal counted makes more sense. Either way, had Bellingham not scored that wonder goal out of nowhere Southgate would be forever remembered for this awful game as his last - which would have defined his legacy. Might thoughts entirely. I wont have it that this is a step up in quality, and as you said, there is nothing to suggest that he would crack under the pressure. I am now certain that the issue with this team is Rice, and as a result the CM as a whole. Wharton and Mainoo would represent a dynamic, technically gifted CM. Totally agree, 3 different players tried along side him, got subbed. It's Rice, he's the weak link. I posted this same thing a few days ago.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

UEFA are now investigating Bellingham for a 'gesture' made after scoring his equaliser on Sunday . . . [Link]

With you 100%, but it won't happen under Southgate. He has got his formula and nothing is going to change.

Rice yesterday: 100% tackles won He’s not in great form and needs to be braver in possession, but he’s a long way from a weak link.

I reckon Southgate's got an ad lined up with a Chinese Restaurant chain this time instead of a pizza chain. He'll be advertising the slogan "You can try whatever you like but it's got to go with Rice".
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

That explains why the other night when a cup landed by his foot, he shouted towards the crowd: "What Kung Fu dat?"

Whenever he is under the slightest pressure, he turns back. He has very little 'pre-scanning' as they call it now, so he gets the ball and then gets his head up. Its accurate but:

Just hasn't been partnered with the right player. As palace fans I think we all know what the answer is but unfortunately the man in charge doesn't appear to know.

e.g. Yeah I don’t disagree with your criticisms specifically, but that doesn’t make him a bad player - he’s never been picked for his forward passing or creativity. He’s a ball-winner with solid technique and very good athleticism. You could replace Rice next game and it still wouldn’t solve the structural problems with our system.
