I had far too many conversations with Brexit supporters in the past not to know the paucity of their arguments. Many of those supporters are now, wisely, keeping very quiet. Stupid statement. Despite your centrist laissez faire like attitude to the decline of Western civilisation, trends don't only move in one direction. The fate of Europe is not preordained. It will be determined by the decisions of men, all the time men exist. The 'situation' will be at the mercy of people who are determined to shape it, not old men on their sofas in Cornwall who are happy to excuse away anything and everything because they adhere to some naive ideal.

Watch out for higher taxes on pensions and any other source of income not directly derived from employment. Edited by HKOwen (06 Jun 2024 7.16am) Taxes must rise whoever wins. Which is why this election is not nearly as important as the next. Labour will be blamed for the tax rises by 2029 by when the last 14 years will be forgotten history. The real question is who, and how, takes over then. The infighting on the right and the resistance by the centre right, for the soul of the Tory Party is the real political story that awaits us. Not the temporary occupation of Downing St by Starmer. I expect my pension income to be severely impacted in the coming years. Which I believe is justified in our circumstances.

It won’t be decided by men, old or not. It will be decided by people, half of whom are women. It will also be decided by circumstances and the need to respond to them. Increasingly it will be decided by the young, and by their attitudes, which they will retain as they grow older and replace us. The kind of thinking you espouse is the last hurrah of a fading generation.

OBR estimate is income tax will be 300bn at current levels in 2024/25 So the result would be a 5-7% reduction in income tax revenue There are without doubt 14 to 20bn in savings to be made by stoping the waste and vanity spending. Let's start with the Foreign Aid budget, soft power is a myth, the UK is a bit player on the world stage now and we should stop wasting money . UK tax to be spent on UK people first Edited by HKOwen (06 Jun 2024 11.09am)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

The Muslim Vote group issued 18 demands from Keir Starmer, no.15 "15. Ensure insurance quotes don't cost more for someone called 'Muhammad'. Unlucky if you are Asif, Abdul, Ali, Imram, Yusuf and so on

I used to do some aviation fleet insurance, for certain airlines like Garuda, the limit of liability for injury and death was specifically reduced on Haj flights to a nominal amount, the reason was any misfortune would be God's will. Mohammed premiums were reduced for those flights
