OK so according to a number of fans, football is now about making a big profit on players and not about actually winning matches. I am now tired of saying that all the money in the world is useless if you can't attract players who are better than your first eleven. We are making losses and not profit. The finances are hamstringing us and will continue to do so. A shame it’ll have to happen at some point but I’m not 11 years old so know the realities of football.

For.all those who think it's about the money, weight it like this: 100m for Zaha and AWB, relegation comes costing 150m It's a no brainer. He's 20 years old on a long term contract.

And if he wants to go? I think the reality is we’re going to have to sell someone soon or we’re going to be in the situation of playing players out of position again or find ourselves with nobody up front again. Unless you, or you know someone with hundreds of millions I don’t know what your solution is. Please give us solutions with the mega losses and no money for transfers.

Pro football nowadays is all about money. If we want to hang onto homegrown talent, build new stadiums, we need a big strong investor. We all thought we had that when the 2 wideboys from the states turned up, but clearly not. Or they couldn’t work with our current leaders.

Of course I want AWB to stay, but over 50 million and we could potentially buy 3/4 first team players. That sort of big investment has been what’s stopped us from kicking on. What could we do with £50 million? Replace AWB. For example one of the young right backs either Aarons or the Wigan lad who they had on loan for £10-15 million. Seri on loan. £20-25 million on a top goal scorer and a young winger like Jack Clarke from Leeds for £4-8 million. That sort of window would be huge for us. Realistically AWB as good as he is, is not in a position where he is irreplaceable. Zaha in my opinion is. His goal contributions and ability to drag the ball out of our own half are invaluable and for me the only player we can’t afford to lose is him. Edited by coulsdoneagle (14 Jun 2019 5.58am)

after reading some of the posts on here saying lose AWB our defence will be next to usless, since promotion we have conceded 48,51,51,63 and 55 goals, first 3 seasons Joel was our right back until injury, then we let in more goals, Defending is you play as a unit not as a individual,I know this because i played in defence, losing AWB would be sad but man u also looking at the norwich player if they cant get Aaron, So right backs can be replaced just needs to fit in with the rest of defence, Winning trophys keeps players lots of fans on here was willing us to get knocked out of the cups, just to stay up,short sighted very very short sighted

We’ve got the infrastructure the management the fans and a great team to build on. The big question is will Parish release his dominant position to attract investors. If he does with our fan base we could and should be playing in Europe.

Completely hypothetical and I'm not claiming to have a clue what prices other teams would want for their players, these are just going off rumoured asking prices. I would be more than happy if Palace sold AWB for £55m. Something like that would give us a more well rounded team with some creativity and goals plus £29m profit.

Pay Sturridge 2m + wages to use our medical facilities? 4m NOT to sign a striker? Downgrade on AWB and increase the wage bill so that the directors can share 29m between them? Glad you're not in charge of transfers. Edited by ChrisGC (14 Jun 2019 7.44am)

The answer is to invest in the youth setup and scouting system employing the Cortese model from Southampton. We have the most populated catchment area in Europe, yet AWB is the first player in 7 + years to make it and our youth team doesn't even compete in the top tier. Where Southampton went wrong with the model was when Cortese left they sold all their scouted/youth players. Mane, VVD, Llana, Oxlade Chamberpot, Wanayma, Lovren, all just competed in squads for the biggest trophies. People are saying "we can buy 4 new players with that money". No we can't! Bentekkers and Sakho cost 30m ffs and that was before the market went crazy. Then there's the wages. 4 new players = £400k a week. Unaffordable, unsustainable.

We don't have the money to chuck £35m at a striker, mainly due to the fact that despite what everyone thought would be a successful purchase in Benteke. We have to be realistic and accept that we aren't backed by owners willing to throw money at us and have to live within our means. Yes loaning a player is like renting, but we don't really have a choice. I also think Sturridge is not quite as injury prone as people are making out, you don't play 300 games as a pro by being constantly on the treatment table. He's been pretty much injury free this season but out of the side because they have Salah, Firmino, Mane and he hasn't been able to work his way back to full form and fitness. To dismiss someone of his ability for a club like ours is churlish. Personally, I wouldn't have renewed Wickhams contract as that would have made a decent amount of wages for someone like Sturridge that I'd sooner take the risk on than him.

You do know who Daniel Sturridge is? He's about to turn 30 and never managed more than 30 league games, averaging about 14. And you think it's sensible to give him 2m and a fat cat salary?
