Indeed. This makes intuitive sense. I for one, while pleased the Tories are in a mess, am less pleased that May has created a situation where Brexit cannot be forefront of the minds of politicians given the mess at home, simply due to a hubristic attempt at a power grab. The election was a vanity project for her and purely politically opportunistic. If she genuinely believed this election was necessary due to Brexit she would have called it soon after become PM and certainly BEFORE article 50 was triggered. Her actions have been irresponsible and now threaten the future of this country as we prepare for these vitally important Brexit negotiations. I hope that we have another election and we manage to get a government that actually has the authority and ability to get on with Brexit, but to do so in a manor that bears the public in mind and which puts public services, jobs and social rights at the heart of negotiations. We Conservatives are NOT in a "Mess" at all but of course these are challenging times for us. I totally disagree that Theresa May called the election for the reasons you stated. She called the election to try and get a larger mandate for when she went into complex and protracted Brexit negotiations and I can totally understand her reasons for doing so. You would think that Labour had WON the election ! As mentioned they are NOT the largest party and could not realistically form a majority with other parties. It is totally arrogant for them to say they could form a minority Government - It would be a mess just like it would be if they had got in power with their fantasy promises. I'll leave it at this otherwise it will disintegrate into yet another WILLO thread. Will give this 'General Election' thread a miss from now on. Edited by Willo (11 Jun 2017 11.42am)

The Tories need to appoint another leader as soon as possible and then call another general election as soon as possible after that.

You want Labour in charge of negotiations? I despair. You have seen the Labour cabinet? They couldn't be trusted with wiping their own arse.

Brexit is gone drag it out as long as you like but it has gone. There may be a fudge and flag-waving but that's all it could possibly be now IMO. Instead we can be as we are in a strong power bloc and being 'strong and stable'. Now where did I hear that????

The EU 'regulations' (ie: dictats on how you run your own country) would make Labour's nationalisation plans practically impossible to implement. The EU is a capitalist, price fixing, market rigging, cartel, not an engine of socialism.

Brush ourselves down lift ourselves up with a new government led by Jeremy Corbyn. People from different political persuasions encouraged to join but for the many not the few. I don't think the elderly should be gassed necessarily as I am becoming one.

There might be a short term improvement for the many, but unfortunately, in the mid to long term, the living standards of everyone would fall with Corbyn's left wing policies. Such policies have always failed wherever they have been tried and always will. We need less government and let free markets help to enrich everyone.

Lets be honest, Labour knew they had no chance of winning, so thought they would put spanner in the works by issuing popular policies to get the young voting for them, like scrapping university fees, re-nationalising the railways and pumping millions into a failed NHS system, can you imagine if Labour won the election, Corbyn would be s***ting his pants now, knowing he has no way to pay for these ilconceived polices.....
