Britain after WW2. Apparently these were terribly horrible people with an awful history and we all needed foreigners to save Britain and run it because it just wasn't possible without them. [Tweet Link] Don't believe it fake news by the far right, where is the diversity all I see are white people. According to BBC drama we had lots of diversity back then.

Yeah, but we were so weak, because that diversity is our greatest strength. God knows, how we we played a significant part in winning two world wars. Oh it's come to me...We won because Germany had even less diversity than we had.

It's prior to mosts birth though, so there is a warm idealised glow and separation to it. It's not like its a montage of the tough moments of life from then - which is what some would opt to view now - as long as those in it aren't white of course. Would those welling up over this feel the wonderment of kinship and brotherhood if they entered a room full of whites now? No, often they'd still feel the oddbod, not 'part of' their surroundings. Why would that be? The perceived yet unknown politics of others in the room? It's all get a bit silly. Easier to detach from the complexities of real life in any given moment sans self analysis and relating to others by peering through the one way net curtains of time. You happy to place your trust in a government that put him into that position? OK the PM has changed but the party is still the same. But it never takes responsibility for its actions, just gives us yet another cabinet with Hobsons choice. Zahawi is currently Chairman of the Conservative Party.

I’m sure though that it was not tax evasion, as that’s illegal. more like tax avoidance with loopholes, you know the type most self employed people use every year!!!

Zahawi is a sort of Tory version of Keith Vaz.

I am self employed, am I being foolish then paying taxes according to the system? Were I Chair of the ruling party and ex Chancellor would I be held to the absolute letter of the regulations or should I expect myself to be treated as a special case? I guess I could pop a couple of loopholes in whilst nobody was watching.

It is a bit ridiculous. I'm not sure what is more worrying: the act that he committed or the fact he did so, holding the post he did, and couldn't 'get away' with it? Bit like your head of digital security being caught with a load of pawn on his laptop.
