He had a long contract. There was no need to sell unless we chose to. Surely you can see we decided to sell AWB. It was the first time in our history that we have been offered £50m for any of our players, especially as he cost us nothing. We are operating at a loss with a number of players on high unsustainable wages, it wasn’t a difficult decision. For all the faults RB isn’t a key position and AWB had no attacking forward threat to his game.

Doug has given an interview (reported in the Standard) bemoaning the lack of value in the market because clubs knew that Palace had the AWB money. Still doesn't explain the lack of a new striker when clearly we needed strengthening there. Need to be doing our business a lot earlier, even if it is only 1 key transfer.

He had a long contract. There was no need to sell unless we chose to. It isn’t players doing it any more, it’s agents. And when it’s public knowledge and factually true we’re standing in the way of a dream move to the largest club in the country that he may not get the offer of again, it’s potentially more damaging to stand in his way, being known as the club that prevents these kind of moves and player and career progression. But again, that’s reality. You’re like a Palace fan version of Gordon Brown and his cheque book and stubbornness on this matter.

If you think selling our best players every time a big club comes calling is the way forward then you are more of an idiot than I thought. You resort to calling people idiots like you think it’s a strength or something to be proud of, when in this thread you’re showing to be exactly what you’re accusing. Try some lateral thinking rather than that of a child who’s lost his favourite player. All you’ve done in this thread is say we shouldn’t sell or shouldn’t have sold AWB but when anyone presents anything sensible or logical to you you say nothing or the same thing again. And you call people idiots. Laughable. It’s real life, not a game you walk away from. All your reply says is you have nothing to offer on the subject and just act like a stubborn child.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle Selling AWB was the best bit of business we have done in a while. No RB has ever moved mountains for a club, especially one whos only attribute is tackling - not even positional sense or ability on the ball in terms of control, being able to beat a player or even cross it. £50million was fantastic thank you very much and we can all remain AWB fans (even still hating UNited) and I hope he does well. We just need now to reinvest that money in the team and.... oh yeah. Thought this was a thread on Wilf?
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This thread has not been about Zaha for pages now, just a petty argument between Rudi and Hrolf about AWB. Can it be locked, or irrelevant posts deleted? Thankfully the kids go back to school in two weeks.

People calling Tammy Abrahams the N word on Twitter arfter missing pen in shot out. If Wilf wants to go to Chelsea and be subjected to this then be my guest. Unfortunately Chelsea fans have a long history of it. A few decades ago they had a player making his debut for them and it was against us, his name was Paul Canoville . The game was at Palace and they were giving him loads of s***, it was really bad, I couldn’t understand why they were giving him such abuse. We already had Vince Hilaire playing for us and he was adored by the fans and he was a brilliant player in his day. You would have thought we would have moved on from all this by now...

"Brighton are talking about how they're coming for us. And it's like, we've been waiting in the Premier League for you for ages." Wilfried Zaha, 2017. |
