1. You think AWB and his agent wouldn’t push for a move to the biggest club in the world on £80k or whatever per week and prefer to stay and play in front of the main stand? Yeah right. Have a look at his latest Instagram posts. Actually don’t. It’s too upsetting how much players love it elsewhere.

2. We bid for several players but wouldn’t go to £20 mil and Clyne got injured. As much as I dislike it, we’re probably biding our time for value because ward isn’t long term.

3. We could’ve bought a right back that wouldn’t have significantly weakened the team. It’s right back, not CB, def mid, midfield, centre forward or anywhere through the spine of the team. PVA has been shocking at LB for a year. Has the team and club crumbled to the point of extinction? No.

Your last sentence is amusing. ‘We are now relying on loans and cheap aging or sick note players.’ In the summer this is exactly what you were saying we should do. Keep everyone here until buyers come in and save us (take us to fantasy land), and in the meantime only loan players in we need. Striker, anyone creative. That is exactly what you were suggesting and now you’re slating it because you’re so married to this AWB opinion you’re either willing to contradict yourself and rubbish your original opinions, or you just can’t remember what you’ve said because you’ll never let go of selling AWB will destroy cpfc.

I respect a lot of your opinions on politics and current affairs but on this subject you’re being quite similar to an ideological and illogical leftie, where again, they are not, and will not, hopefully, ever be given the reigns to be in the position. Because as we saw with the Lib Dem’s, opposition is easy, power isn’t.

I tend to agree, we are not in the situation where a £20m full back is a priority. We have Ward who is steady lacks pace but has experience and Kelly as a back up.
The striker situation is more of pressing issue, looking to not make the Benteke error again in splashing out £30m. I know we bid for the Russian, but the price kept rising, there was no guarantee he would adapt to the Premier, so Parish didn’t meet the price to avoid having a £30m version of Sorloth.

Inflated prices made the situation much more tricky, nobody could have envisaged after his first season with us the form from Benteke and with having a solid player in Ward available with reasonable back ups waiting until January is the best bet for our size club because to fill any position especially for us is a huge gamble, no amount of money is going to alter that ..we are not attractive enough to be able to replace AWB with another AWB.

Doug has given an interview (reported in the Standard) bemoaning the lack of value in the market because clubs knew that Palace had the AWB money.
I admit I don’t know. the ins and outs of Palace’s transfer policy (assuming there is one) , but this seems to be a fairly lame excuse.
We could have agreed a deal for AWB contingent upon signing a replacement and I’m sure Utd would have been prepared to wait a few weeks as they were desperate to get him in.
We would not then have had clubs attempting to take advantage of our supposed ‘windfall.’
It’s easy to be critical from the sidelines but I don’t accept the excuses.

The striker situation is softened with having fit players back in it, strikers that hit the back of the net are fought over by the top six only ..even if we did manage to luckily find one with age on his side he'd be off quicker the AWB, had Benteke been able to keep up his early form with us how many on here really believe he'd still be here, it was only the treatment Zaha received at Man.U that allowed us to bring him back ..if Ferguson hadn't stepped aside to allow Moyles to ferk it up Zaha would probably be at Barcelona now.

Clubs understand perfectly well when other clubs are in need of players and have the available funds for it, what he says is what's happening.

I get your frustration. I’m seriously unimpressed with no RB cover, and more so if ward gets injured. But this is real life. Not a board game you walk away from for lunch or when you’ve done your bollox on pretend money.

Not even close.

Selling AWB did really piss me off I must admit but I will get over it, like all the other Palace disappointments.

I would suggest then that there is more going on behind the scenes that either you or I know.
Do you honestly believe that SP is enjoying selling our best players?
Do you think, as a fan, he would want us to be as good as possible?
Maybe he is not a fan at all, and he just likes messing with our minds, and watching the meltdown on here.
I have been supporting Palace since I was a little kid, and have taken a lot of s**t for it from every angle. Is that going to make me support the team less, is a crap (I'm not suggesting SP is)chairman/owner/manager going to? Nope

Somethings we just can't change, and the position that Palace find themselves in at the moment is one of them.Having said that being a mid table prem team for the last 7 years isn't too shabby.

Did I suggest that?

You keep shifting the conversation.

What I said is in black and white.

I do find it funny when we make 45 million quid on an academy player and then use having that money as the excuse for not spending it.
If we were going to reinvest the money in players then why not just keep AWB? We only spent 5 million of it.

And don't forget the rare highs. The playoffs (not the Claridge one) and our first cup final, beating the scousers in the semis and the Zenith Data Systems Cup - never forget that one. Making Suarez cry was hilarious too. I was at all those occasions - perhaps makes it worth it.
I was also at the nine-nil at Anfield and had a great time. Palace would be boring if we won stuff all the time.

Would you care to explain how we haven’t hit doom and disaster, extinction or oblivion, or just relegation with PVA in very very poor form please, because we can afford another PVA, and better actually, at RB, instead of AWB.

Not replacing AWB has p1ssed me off, not the selling of him. We did make serious attempts to sign one, and now I can only assume that we didn’t because the cost kept rising, and we’ll struggle on with ward at RB with Kelly or Tomkins out of the 5, or 7 is it, CB’s as backup.

We’ve been over that one plenty of times. We keep a 20 year old at Palace on £10k per week when the biggest club in the country want to offer to make him a long term selection in front of 70,000 fans?

You’ve been unrealistic a lot in this thread.

He had a long contract. There was no need to sell unless we chose to.
A just out of academy player does not dictate to a club under those circumstances.
