Par for the course in any presidential election.
Nothing to see here.

Untrue.

Whilst every politician emphasises the positives and suppresses the negatives none that I can remember has ever behaved like Trump. He has made lying appear to be the new normal. No-one is shocked anymore that what he claims is often simply untrue.

There is heaps to see but many have become immune to it.

It's not immunity.
Its acceptance that if its good for the goose etc.
You seriously believe no president has ever lied.
Obama,clinton,Bush.
Hardly beacons of light and truth.
You cannot count the amount to make one worse than the other.
One is too many for the role.

Oh many people just don't notice his lies anymore.

No other President has used bare faced lies in the way that Trump does. They might have stretched the truth and ignored it sometimes but deliberate lies as a tactic? I don't think so. Every previous President in my lifetime had some integrity. Even Nixon.Trump has none at all. He is totally self obsessed. Dumps anyone who dares disagree with him and says whatever suits his best interests at the time with a total disregard for the truth.

My team tells fewer lies than yours.

Are you serious?

Are you?

Does anyone seriously doubt that Trump's lying is on another scale to anything we have ever witnessed before?

I don't. I read his tweets and watch his "news" conferences. That's enough.

The trouble is that no one cares. Call it spin or call it lying - no one expects politicians to tell the truth about anything.

I care and I think many others do too. Not everyone is quite so cynical about politicians as there are many of them who are completely genuine and trying to do what they believe the country needs. Of course that doesn't always mean they tell all of the truth all of the time. Sometimes circumstances dictate they cannot. White lies are real.

I do though think people have got used to Trump being an out and out lyer. It's what they expect from him now. It's his style and some even seem to revel in it. My own view is that it is an extremely dangerous path which we need to step back from asap. We have imported some of it here now and it disturbs me.

Who are the completely genuine ones? My own view is that they’ve always lied but nowadays it’s harder to get away with it.

I seem to remember a certain poster on here saying that if lying is effective it can be justified.

Once again, we have the old, 'if I agree with it' routine.

No actual principle so all the moaning and waffling can be ignored.

Trump is a liar and a bully. I accept that he lies more and that the bullying is immature and damaging in its own way. However he is bullying the right kind of people....For the most part slime bags within the political bubble. The lies he tells to the public are no worse than the lies all politicians tell.

However on the plus side, he is also getting results for his country on trade, jobs and the economy that the opposition wimps failed at and said couldn't happen.

Trump has been a relative success, far more than I suspected he would.....He hasn't been what I wanted....but within the context he finds himself, he's far better than the alternative for anyone who isn't a social liberal.

1. Consumer credit rose to 19.3% of GDP, the highest ever.
According to data released yesterday, consumer debt jumped by $187 billion in the fourth quarter 2019, compared to a year earlier, or by 4.7%, to a record $4.2 trillion.
Without this $187 billion in additional spending funded by $187 billion in additional debt, the US economy would not have grown 2.3% in 2019, but only about 1.8%.

2. Agreed. Given the alternative, the US would have been in a far worse position..........regardless of what some here choose to believe.
