Demographic change since humans first moved out of Africa has had significance. The pace of change has speeded up in every aspect of life. So we need to learn to adapt quicker too. You learned to use a keyboard, rather than a quill pen, easily enough, but seem incapable of doing so in other areas. Try harder, because if you don't you are going to be left behind. Changes like these are not reversible and banging your head on brick walls only causes you pain. The bricks don't notice. I won't be anything other than part of a lineage that will disappear due to the pressure on women to work and have fewer children and a completely unnecessary invasion of outsiders. Do you think that those that have been subjugated, displaced, outbred or just plain exterminated in the past were willing happy participants? None of this will have a huge impact on me personally, but I feel like people should be made aware of what the future holds if we continue on this course. No one should just accept change that is not positive or beneficial. There is nothing positive about what is happening to Britain. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (01 May 2023 6.25pm)

What’s the point of that quote? We record just about every sneeze these days. In 1000 years someone determined enough could even find your pearls of wisdom. Why they would and what they would make of them are other questions.

Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (01 May 2023 6.25pm) I guess you will spend your remaining years believing this nonsense so I feel quite sorry for you. Your “lineage” won’t disappear at all. It might not look like you but those people won’t care about that. They will revisit what grandad or great grandad said and laugh about how funny you were in 2023. If they are going to be happy why not try to be happy for them now? It’ll be too late when you are dead.

So the behaviour is not repeated. Not for the first time I find myself having to explain what is blindingly obvious to everyone but a serial pedant.

You are only really remembered in an emotional way by two generations; your kids and your kids kids, after that you’re just the old git in the corner who pisses himself .

He is wrong because we won’t be. It will change but it always has and always will. The same complaint has been made in past centuries but when the new generations arrive they simply neither notice nor care. The changes may be quicker and wider but that’s true of everything in today’s world. Just stop worrying. There’s nothing that can or ought to be done. Be happy and try to make those you love happy too.

Maybe they are. It would explain a lot. You know what they say about little men needing to be overly aggressive to make up for their lack of physical stature?

Whilst, obviously, you cannot revisit the past, you can learn how not to repeat mistakes. You can also do things that repair the damage done by some of those mistakes. So yes, it's possible to claim to be able to correct the past. Like Brexit corrected the error of getting entangled in the EU.
