Make that 'a' ...slip of the keyboard. Don't want any complaints about standard of teaching these days. Mind you, PE teachers are famous for making the worst smelling pistakes...

Some of the 'older' posters on here are clearly jealous of other people's youth and the opportunities they have today, simple as that. They make up the selfish group who pushed through the brexit referendum not giving a damn about the prospects of the younger generations. A truly sad situation which I've never seen in the many other European countries I've lived in, where they focus on supporting their young people because they realise they are the future.

Total and utter hogwash about all this "Jealousy" bit.

I am 65 this year (So getting old !), I talk to a lot of people roughly my age and older and I have never sensed this at all.We have children, grand-children and to suggest that we don't give a whit about their prospects etc is risible and ridiculous.Incidently my daugher is nearly 28 so I consider her young !

Well we are not all like they are but the older generation is a big disappointment quite happy with the young having no future.

Selfish materialistic often bigoted hope the tide has turned on them.

This is total and utter hogwash, the type one reads in the 'Guardian' and other such publications.

We of the 'Older generation' have offspring who aspire to buy their property, have bought their properties, are in University etc etc.We understand the challenges they face and try to help them, financially or otherwise. We do care about them and their prospects.

My God you talk some utter cr&p.

Old people are jealous of young people so vote leave and for austerity which they think won't burden them and the current teenagers and juniors with even more debt.

You need a rest.

It's almost tragic to watch May's demise from strong and stable to deluded power clingeronerer.
The way she spoke at no.10 as though as it was business as usual.

House of Cards pales in comparison.

Thing is I worry that no good will come of it all.

What was the alternative in the circumstances ? Suppose you feel that Labour (Who cannot realistically engineer a majority) should have walked in to 'No 10' on the back of nearly 60 seats behind the Conservatives in the election. The pundits ridiculed this scenario - bloody cheeky and arrogant Labour even suggesting it.

As for talking outside 'No 10' this was not the time to comment on the election. This was the time to inform the electorate about what was going to happen next which of course was subject to speculation.

Anyway, enough of this political chat from me for now as I have things to do and places to go.Drove my wife mad last night in my 'Local' when people came up to me to chat about the election and she told me to "Shut up" as she was "Politicsed out" !!!!!

Some of May's problems were to first say she would not call an election when she became Tory leader, then call one for the obvious purpose of simply increasing her majority - not in the country's interests but in hers. The electorate do not like having their votes taken for granted and do not like needless elections; remember Heath with "who runs the country?" - believe it or not, I was canvassing for the Labour party during that election and the usual response was "well Heath obviously doesn't, he is supposed to be Prime Minister, why isn't he doing his job".
Having called a pointless election, May then presented about two policies - a vote on bringing back fox hunting, and taking into account peoples' homes when accessing liability for home care. Two vote winners there!
She then ducked public debates and presumably banned her senior colleagues from speaking as we saw little of them.
The surprise really is that she actually won - despite the opposition being a bunch of Trotskyites.

It's ironic that so many on here call the young brainwashed and deluded yet seem to find it hard to conceive that continued politics of austerity and tax cuts for the wealthy will inevitably lead to the emergence of Corbyn type figures who can end up seriously threatening the status quo. Corbyn stopping Mays majority is a direct result of the Tories indifference over the past 7 years. But hey maybe you're all too blind and naive to see that.

Yes. 55% voted for anti austerity parties. The will of the people.

She's had enough! And we're only at the end of the beginning of this story.

"Austerity" as you put it to try and reduce the defecit and get finances under control in order to have a strong economy.I would have understood this even if it was Labour who was going down this path but alas they just believe in tax and SPEND,SPEND,SPEND with precious little thought for whether the increased expenditure is being spent wisely.

As for "Tax cuts for the rich" this does make me laugh when the rich pay the higher rate and as such already contribute a great deal to the coffers. Besides under the Conservatives the amount one can earn before paying tax has been going up and up, now going up to £12,500 and this of course helps ordinary families on lower incomes.

As for "Tory indifference over 10 years", let's not forget that there was a coalition Government between 2010 and 2015 where compromises have to be made with one's coalition partners. And such "Indifference" has led to record numbers in employment.

At the end of the day, the election was NOT a victory for Labour as is being portrayed - they fell short by nearly 60 seats and there is still a Conservative PM in 'No 10'.

You clearly have no understanding of depression economics and the economics of austerity.

Also increasing the personal allowance was a Lib Dem flagship policy.
