Some of the 'older' posters on here are clearly jealous of other people's youth and the opportunities they have today, simple as that. They make up the selfish group who pushed through the brexit referendum not giving a damn about the prospects of the younger generations. A truly sad situation which I've never seen in the many other European countries I've lived in, where they focus on supporting their young people because they realise they are the future. Edited by europalace (10 Jun 2017 9.32am) Total and utter hogwash about all this "Jealousy" bit.

Selfish materialistic often bigoted hope the tide has turned on them.

We of the 'Older generation' have offspring who aspire to buy their property, have bought their properties, are in University etc etc.We understand the challenges they face and try to help them, financially or otherwise. We do care about them and their prospects. Old people are jealous of young people so vote leave and for austerity which they think won't burden them and the current teenagers and juniors with even more debt. You need a rest.

What was the alternative in the circumstances ? Suppose you feel that Labour (Who cannot realistically engineer a majority) should have walked in to 'No 10' on the back of nearly 60 seats behind the Conservatives in the election. The pundits ridiculed this scenario - bloody cheeky and arrogant Labour even suggesting it. As for talking outside 'No 10' this was not the time to comment on the election. This was the time to inform the electorate about what was going to happen next which of course was subject to speculation. Anyway, enough of this political chat from me for now as I have things to do and places to go.Drove my wife mad last night in my 'Local' when people came up to me to chat about the election and she told me to "Shut up" as she was "Politicsed out" !!!!! Some of May's problems were to first say she would not call an election when she became Tory leader, then call one for the obvious purpose of simply increasing her majority - not in the country's interests but in hers. The electorate do not like having their votes taken for granted and do not like needless elections; remember Heath with "who runs the country?" - believe it or not, I was canvassing for the Labour party during that election and the usual response was "well Heath obviously doesn't, he is supposed to be Prime Minister, why isn't he doing his job".
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

Corbyn stopping Mays majority is a direct result of the Tories indifference over the past 7 years. But hey maybe you're all too blind and naive to see that. Yes. 55% voted for anti austerity parties. The will of the people.

"Austerity" as you put it to try and reduce the defecit and get finances under control in order to have a strong economy.I would have understood this even if it was Labour who was going down this path but alas they just believe in tax and SPEND,SPEND,SPEND with precious little thought for whether the increased expenditure is being spent wisely. As for "Tax cuts for the rich" this does make me laugh when the rich pay the higher rate and as such already contribute a great deal to the coffers. Besides under the Conservatives the amount one can earn before paying tax has been going up and up, now going up to £12,500 and this of course helps ordinary families on lower incomes. As for "Tory indifference over 10 years", let's not forget that there was a coalition Government between 2010 and 2015 where compromises have to be made with one's coalition partners. And such "Indifference" has led to record numbers in employment. At the end of the day, the election was NOT a victory for Labour as is being portrayed - they fell short by nearly 60 seats and there is still a Conservative PM in 'No 10'. Edited by Willo (10 Jun 2017 9.39am) You clearly have no understanding of depression economics and the economics of austerity. Also increasing the personal allowance was a Lib Dem flagship policy.
