Brexit was all about trying to move back to a time and a situation that had long gone. I had far too many conversations with Brexit supporters in the past not to know the paucity of their arguments. Many of those supporters are now, wisely, keeping very quiet.

I would question the next tax bracket after that though. That is a loss of about £1400 per worker who earns 20 k or more.

Labour have been coached to add the words " on working people " after declaring no tax rises. Watch out for higher taxes on pensions and any other source of income not directly derived from employment. Edited by HKOwen (06 Jun 2024 7.16am)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

That could be anywhere between 14 and 20 bn per year. OBR estimate is income tax will be 300bn at current levels in 2024/25 So the result would be a 5-7% reduction in income tax revenue

For you and others perhaps. But for many of us it was about national sovereignty and accountability. By the way we are saying see accountability coming to the fore. Most of us Brexiteers on here never expected rainbows and unicorns this was said by the remainers. In fact I know that I posted that Brexit was not a end state solution but the start of the reform of the UK. Do nothing MPs were hiding behind the EU as an excuse and Brexit would take away that excuse. And so it has proved, this Tory government constantly blamed the EU over immigration and now they no longer have that excuse, their performance has been terrible. Voters are angry with the Tories and want change and they have nowhere to hide or anyone to blame. They will lose the GE because of it. What we need in this country is a wholesale reform of Parliament, our courts, NHS, immigration service, higher education and training. Labour will now get their chance and if they don't deliver I expect the voters will let them know in turn. No excuses nowhere to hide. Edited by Badger11 (06 Jun 2024 8.13am)

Edited by Badger11 (06 Jun 2024 8.13am) Completely worthless commodity in any meaningful way, other than pride, and that can be achieved inside or outside the EU. Accountability is perfectly achievable too. You are just doing it in other ways. They are no justification for us deciding to become isolated from our natural allies and partners and threatening both our economic progress and security. For sure our local politics, and that of the EU, can benefit from being modernised to reflect the current needs and circumstances. There is much we could, and should, do. Changes that are actually more likely if within the EU, than outside.
