Ultimately we can all try and be philosophical about the profit we've made on him but the reality is that similar quality players are going for 2/3 times as much. Chelsea know that they're getting an absolute bargain, that's why they're doing it. They don't need him. I suspect you are right on the value and their need for him. But we bought him for under market value too. And he probably wouldn't have signed for us if we'd insisted on no release clause or one at 100m I think everyone is so unhappy because we historically have been so bad at replacing players. But give Doug and Parish some credit, we've go the most 'sellable' team I can ever remember. Lets back them to find the next one.

Of course there is, this interest in our squad is hard for many to accept at the moment. In main I suspect because we are not used to it, we never really have anyone that is worth buying. Maybe not but a future as a feeder club isn't appealing. The Premier League is all about money and after a decade we're no better off.

I think the rumour that we are going to report Chelsea for tapping up is PR by Parish for us fans. Apparently we are "considering doing that" unfortunately we need Chelsea more than they need us besides all clubs do it so I will be surprised if anything more happens.

I don't know much when it comes to contracts and with this 35m release clause does that mean any sell on clause if there is any is void. I'm really just reaching for any possibility of getting more for Olise, the fact he is going for only 35 given the inflated market and his talent just makes my stomach churn. A report I read said reading have a 10% sell on clause.

Ridiculous statement, 300% profit is tremendous, even though it is under his value, remember, Benteke, Sakho, PVA etc

For me that's the biggest disappointment. Chelsea have Sterling, Madueke and the new Brazilian lad who play on the right wing and still have Ziyech on the books too. This does feel like a case of stopping their rivals from signing a bargain. If the clause is there and Olise wanted to leave there's not much we can do, but as I and others have already said, doing it this late in the window is a sh!tty thing to do as Palace were never going to accept less than the release clause. Every club Palace buy from seem to say how well the club conducts itself in dealings, even Reading said so when we met Olise's release clause with them. Chelsea are becoming quite an ugly little club. I would put money on the Hall deal stalling because of Chelsea's behaviour.

Therefore, even if we get a replacement with potential, for this season our team will be weaker.

I’m assuming that if we’re reporting chelsea over Olise, that the Hall deal is over now!!

I suspect I might be on my own here but I was never 100% convinced that Olise really wanted to be at Palace. He seemed not to ever be part of the “family” and not that bothered. He had some fun with Eze and their partnership could have blossomed this season but I wonder without regular game time whether anything similar will be possible at Chelsea. I suspect he might soon feel on the sidelines and having to fight to get noticed doesn’t seem a natural instinct of his. So I worry more for him than I do for us. He will undoubtedly make a lot of money but his career could easily stall. The players going to Saudi are mostly in the last phases of their careers. Olise is in the first of his. Maybe he will be back with his tail between his legs? It happened before! I am also of this opinion. I was never going to say anything against Olise whilst he was very much here but what I think was optimistically viewed as a brooding mystique about him was just an arrogance and discontent. Serious Anelka, 'Le Sulk' vibes. And don't get me wrong, I bought into the 'he's a character' narrative too. I have this thought of a young man who has been told he's the most talented and beautiful in the world too often, and too many times, by his own mother. That's fine so long as he's performing for our team but at a club like ours such a player is only ever going to feel that they're doing us a favour just by being here. I imagine there's feeling in his camp that a move to Chelsea was an inevitability hence we were only ever a somewhat laborious stepping stone. I am petty enough now to hope he plays 6 games for Chelsea, all off the bench, falls into obscurity and ends up in a no-mans land of a career. I'd suggest that's the smart money too. Could very easily be a crash back down to earth for him and his 'camp'. Chelsea have done this before, just taken players out of the game, so to speak, even if the benefit is to weaken other teams despite not improving their own. Perhaps a loan to a newly promoted side in Ligue 1 next season is on the cards? I'd laugh in that instance.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Lets say this is true in his contract a 35m release clause this again shows how poorly we are run. This is a pattern with the club poor contracts. In the current market he is worth close to 50-60m to lose him at 35m is terrible business. I really hope this is all untrue.

There's much excitement on the Shed End forum about him returning home. They clearly see him as a Chelsea academy star who's done his apprenticeship and is now ready to rejoin his family.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
