I'm not a smoker, never have been never will, but if you sit in a smoking area and you know you do then its your own bad luck if you happen to be next to a smoker. I don't really mind in the winter though warms me up

I'm a non smoker and personally, if people want to slowly and painfully kill themselves, I don't give one, so long as they don't do it around me. I see smoking as a filthy habit overall, whether at football matches, in the pub or in someones own home.

Smoking has been scientifically proven to damager not only your own health, but also that of others around you. I think there should definitely be stricter laws on smoking in public.

On smoking in Selhurst......I think there should be one single stand where smoking is permitted, and the rest of the ground reserved for people who do not wish to inhale harmful fumes being blown this way and that from smokers.

If i want to get abusive about smoking in public, it's my perogative. Smoking is a disgusting, dirty habit, and it's only us non-smokers that see that. I'm not ranting about Selhurst Park, just smoking in public generally and I'm very much looking forward to the proposed smoking ban.

This response is typical of the rabid anti-smoking brigade. I've generally found smokers are quite reasonable & respect other people (if we're in a pub & a non-smoker is eating I won't light up until they've finished) compare this with the non-smokers who moan about people smoking in designated areas

A couple of years ago I was on a train (to watch Palace) sitting in the one smoking carriage, a family sat down & the dad started slagging everyone off for smoking then opened the end windows so we were sitting in a gale. He proclaimed "I don't want my kids getting cancer". I asked why then he was in the smoking carriage? Apparantly there were no other seats so he went & got complained to the guard!

Your reaction "If i want to get abusive about smoking in public, it's my perogative" - is it right to get abusive about anything?

If something truely annoys me (like the dirty disgusting habit of smoking), then yes.

And that is MY PEROGATIVE...

On a side note, why is this post in Silly Talk?

Someone thought it was silly?

Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season?

But habits that non-smokers have are probably not as dangerous by far than smoking.

I don't have a problem with people smoking, at the end of the day it's their choice, but I DO have a problem with anyone doing anything that can harm other people with the other person having little choice( ie sitting next to someone at a football match).

My choice if i want to smoke, it may be a filthy habit but so is picking your nose. I don't drive, so can those who drive and put my health at risk please stop?

Madcap, you obviously have no idea on addiction, If smokers had a choice i'm sure the majority would stop smoking, but it isn't that easy. You can throw the word "disgusting" into your argument as many times as you like but it doesn't get away from the fact that many people have habits that we dislike but as tolerant society we have to accept these.

Unless your directly leaning over my fag taking in the smoke then it has very little effect at all. disease from passive smoking is actually caused by years and years of living with someone who constantly smokes in a small non ventelated area. ASH would have you believe differently, however if you read their comments about us being a drain on the NHS then i think you will see what a bunch of idiots they are. Surely achoholism and even the consumption of fatty foods is of equal drain to the NHS but they quietly skirt over that issue.
