Same old Labour. Taxing the middle class to pay for layabouts.

You need to understand that the vast majority of people are not 'rich'.
Only a tiny percentage of people are beyond money concerns.

Why should the taxpayer be subsidising the richest in society to go to better schools than everyone else?

And what will they do with that money?

Give it to the unemployed? Pay for illegal immigrants to live in hotels?
Set up another equality watchdog?

So you don’t have an answer, you just don’t like Labour.

The question is silly.

The better off already pay a lot more tax. You are just penalising people for doing better in life.

That is foolish.

If you want to tax someone, tax those that are super rich and will barely notice.

It's silly to want someone to be able to explain why they think a policy is a good idea? Cmon...

It's not about penalising anyone - that's a childish framing.

It's applying the same tax that everyone else pays for services, to a service predominantly used by the rich - that's literally it, and you don't seem able to offer a proper argument as to why it should be subsidised to begin with.

People are paying a large sum to have their children educated privately. Labour are punishing them for that. The politics of jealousy.

Same old Labour.

This is a purely ideological policy based on jealousy.

Logistically it can't work if you think about it at all.

I can't remember an election where politicians from all sides have wheeled out more BS and simply refused to answer major questions assuming the voters are stupid.

2019 you had the likes of Rebecca Long-Bailey moaning the Labour vote had " not understood the manifesto "

#prayfortheuk

for the interest of balance

1. fees won't go up by 20%. As private schools are deemed charities they cannot reclaim VAT in purchases. Once they are VAT eligible it will work both ways. By reclaiming VAT it will offset the VAT they will need to charge, so i suspect fees will go up c10%

2. based on No1 the number moving to state education is massively reduced

3. The state sector is actually suffering from a pupil crisis as there are not enough kids being born and therefore going into the school system. If you had a school that say can hold 1,000 pupils there are a lot of fixed costs associated with running that school. If that school has say 800 kids the fixed costs are unchanged.

4. on a general point why does a business, which a private school is, have charitable status anyway? Surely this is wrong and needs changing

God this is like debating with someone writing tabloid headlines.

You just ignore any questions or points you can't deal with, and go back to repeating tropes that don't even make sense.

Let's try again; why should the taxpayer subsidise a luxury for rich people?

Really?

Are Labour going to tax private education or not?

How much money will that make?

Simple question.

You are dressing this up as 'fairness'.

Pretending that somehow VAT on private education is all about the greater good.

Utter crap.

It's all about ideology from a party who will never change from being jealous hypocritical lefties.

Debate that.
