If neither Lerma or Doucoure can get into the team because of better players ahead of them, that would be team progression on a pretty special level.

Doucoure pre injury would start alongside Wharton surely. I hope he recovers well and gets back on form. Ignoring his shooting he was fantastic for us

It also shows that we're building a squad which will allow both proper rotation to rest players and a manager who's willing to use subs to change the team when required.

Oh indeed.

Which Is why I'm so anti signings like Ben Johnstone. He's not terrible, but I'd much rather sign a Chadi Ryad, who is coming to displace someone else from the first team. I suspect he'll take MG's place if he goes, if not he'll be eying Richards place.

Listening to the HLTCO podcast a few days ago, apparently Sunderland fans have been saying he can play CAM/striker. Maybe being brought to eventually back up/take over JPM or in the CAM role once Eze/Olise evetuantlly go?

Maybe they've told us they're staying.

If everyone stays then I'd expect the starting team to be the 11 from the end of the season with Guehi alongside Richards and Andersen, and Doucoure alongside Wharton.

That's why I just can't see Guehi staying.

Andersen, Richards, Ward, Clyne, Holding, Riad, Guehi, and an emergency Lerma for 3 positions? Not a chance.

It's also why I can't see Bellingham coming in if Kamada is and at least one of Eze and Olise are staying. Glasner played Kamada in the Eze role and having Kamada, Ayew, Eze, Olise, Franca going for 2 positions doesn't need an expensive Jobe Bellingham also in the mix.

Hence the rumours that we're having second thoughts (if we ever had first thoughts that is).

I suspect we have been keeping tabs on the younger Bellingham but with Kamada joining us and the possibility that one or even both of Eze and Olise staying, we will keep our powder dry on the Bellingham front for now and see how things develop. Of course, it may be that Bellingham was a back-up option in case Kamada had chosen to stay in Italy.

I fear he may not or it may take a while. Long term injuries don't always see the "same" player return.

If he does, the team look terrifying.

Don't be too dismissive of Jude. He scored a wonder goal in the first match, and the best is yet to come

He needs a rest because he was basically rubbish in the last 2 matches with his misplaced passes and wrong turns etc.

Only 19, but who knows , he could be a really good investment and could turn out to be a snip?
