The two players who will make crucial mistakes are Pickford and obviously Maguire, who is the archetypal Flat caps and Whippets man, who couldn't find his backside with both hands, and just looks confused if you gave him two shovels and asked him to take a pick.

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

Every England manager has the same dilemma. Do you pick the same players you’ve worked with over the past few years to develop chemistry and structure or do you pick on current form!

England pick managers who have that cautious “safe pair of hands” attitude first and foremost. As with Roy we knew his selection and system throughout a season so don’t expect Gareth will pivot from that philosophy! He’s done ok but unlikely to bring gone the prize!!

Southgate is naming his training squad for the Euros today, early this afternoon, and it could be more than 26 players

The deadline for his final squad of 26 is 7th June

They did actually mention Eze, Wharton AND Mitchell as being in with a shout on Sky news last night……But when do England managers pick players on current form? Even Southgate despite saying he’d be different, sticks with his favourites.

I will not be surprised if he includes Rashford and Henderson even though they have shown no form lately.

His options for left back are limited due to injury and lack of form but don't be surprised if he plays a right back at left back rather than take Mitchell.

Will be very interesting. And surely would work in our players favour.

IF he brought Wharton to have a look at, I'm sure he'd impress enough to make the final cut.

Hopefully none, and they all come back rested and fully fit for pre season training.
None of this coming back injured or in dribs and drabs.

Yep, I feel the same way Patrick. But I'd like to see Gareth select Ebs simply to show that a Palace shirt won't hold him back. After all, he was on the list before his nasty injury. Geuehi will almost certainly be there.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

i agree. Would rather all our players had a rest over the summer but surely Guehi is a must as he has proved the best alternative option to Southgate's preference of Stones and Maguire, neither of whom have had great seasons.
Eze is a bit of a wildcard but GS clearly likes him. Would prefer him as an impact sub to say a Grealish.

Rumours are that Henderson, Eze, Guehi and Wharton are all in the squad!

Huge for Palace if true!

I think Eze will get in. It might come down to him or Maddison, who was unbelievable earlier in the season, but he's had issues with Southgate before and clearly on current form Eze is the one.

Defence is interesting as England have injury issues, particularly at left back. Will Mitchell get a space as cover? Has Guehi played enough since coming back?

Henderson the other one with a shout. Nobody has really talked about him recently but, considering that many of us thought he was a terrible purchase at one point, I thought he ended the season really well.

It's surely come too soon for Wharton. Imagine if we got four players into the England squad though, that would be unreal.
