My wife studied in Salford in the early eighties, their rowing team had to visit hospital every time they capsized

Well clearly they were rubbish rowers and surely being able to swim is a prerequisite of being a rower !

Some more facts.

The Thames is currently one of the cleanest city waterways in the world.

The left are only interested in things that are negative about their own country (if of course they recognise the place they live in as their own country). All they do is to try to undermine Britain while placing their allegiance to an undemocratic European grouping, or to some bunch of terrorists. They were the same in the 1930s with their slavish admiration of Stalin.

The last bloke to cross the floor did so out of despair and principle. He will honorably stand down.

This woman is an appalling, unprincipled populist who has shifted from the right of the Tories to Labour given the current direction of the wind.

Labour have embraced her for political reasons but should not touch her with a rusty pole once she is in place. I know politicians are, in general, an awful lot, but this woman is the bottom scrapings of a very rotten barrel.

Why would she think Labour which is pro migration will do a better job. Very odd defection.

Beyond odd. Bordering on the bizarre.

But fitting into my own conspiracy theory about how this entire Tory implosion has been deliberately engineered for the purposes of giving Labour the majority it needs to get us back into the EU.

With that return sold to us on the basis that only by rejoining the EU can we 'take back control' of our coastline as a EU wide response comes into play with regards to this invasion by illegals. And with her constituency on the front line, then this BS that somehow Labour hold the key, making even more sense if you accept my narrative.

The key to this 'defection' is to look back on it in a years time and see which job Elphicke has ended up in. That will tell you all you need to know. Cannot see it being a charity/NGO so reckon some Think Tank is the carrot being dangled. Or the lecture circuit. But she will be a rich lady. That much is a definite.

But fair play to Labour. In terms of top politicking then top marks. Certainly grabbed the headlines.

- Stricter protest laws

Without getting into the merits of each point, I’m struggling to see how that could not considered a right wing government?

Rwanda policy is not anti migration, it is anti illegal migration , big difference. When you have lived through a government completely controlled by the Unions, you may have a different view. So if you believe a woman can’t have a p**** you are completell right wing?

Anti migrant? They just let 300k Asians into the country.

Anti trans? You mean protecting safe spaces for women, protecting children from radical loons and acknowledging the facts of biological sex?

Behave.

Anti union? You mean not caving to absurd wage demands or bowing to self serving, politically motivated union bosses?

Stricter protest laws? You mean stopping the same old far left fruitcakes disrupting people's daily lives with idiotic protests.

Rwanda policy? You mean attempting to halt the invasion of illegals who are costing the taxpayer millions and represent a risk to personal safety and national security?

Right wing? So presumably, left wing means just letting them continue to arrive in their thousands and do nothing.

Brexit right wing? I thought Corbyn was staunchly anti Europe until he sold his soul for votes.

I really fear for Britain under Labour. Anyone who thinks that things can't get worse is deluded.

Oh yeah, I mean he won't be getting a job or any inducement down the line at all.

All out of principle....indeed. All above board just as presented.

I'm surprised at you.

Labour certainly a broad church with this strange defection.

But if she can do the job, on housing, so be it.

Labour must restore its core vote and the muslim labour vote, if it is serious.

Khan handled the Gaza issue without losing votes, Starmer did not.

Favouring one side is not on, imo.

The more I think about this, the stranger and stranger it becomes. Don't get me wrong, how Labour stage managed this was a lesson in pure political theatre at its best but there are so so many questions posed by it that it does make you wonder. Interesting to see noises being made by the Labour Whips who said they were against it so clearly this is a very much top-down coup from Labour which in itself poses all kinds.

This is the kind of story that will probably, when truth does out, be even stranger than anybody can anticipate.

And proof, if ever anymore needed, that British politics is being choreographed at the moment in a way that seems to actually cut out even the vast majority of MPs let alone what the electorate want.

We live in bloody weird/sinister times.

Kudos to Labour as it is a political headline but I do wonder what the local Labour party supporters feel about it.

During Brexit a Tory defected to the Lib Dems much to the glee of the party hierarchy. However at local level they were furious.

- They had a perfectly good candidate who had narrowly lost to the Tory at the last election and they felt he would go one better at the next.

- The local Lib Dems hated the Tory MP because he was quite obnoxious during the previous election campaign and now they were being told he was their man.

They would not have even been considered. Plus Elphicke is standing down come the GE anyway. The issue is that Labour MP's are aghast at this and they were probably given even less consideration.

The point is here that this defection has less than zero to do with principle on any level. Effectively she has been bought and paid for. We will find out the amount based on where she subsequently lands once the GE is out of the way.

The Thames according to the experts is one big outside toilet.
