Despite my attempts to assess him in another similar thread, saying that he was at that point our top scorer (in a Hodgson side offering chances far and few between) - nevertheless, he is lazy beyond bone idle and doesn't seem interested, even in a game with a new manager to impress. His biggest effort of the week must be to log in to check his bank account. Reminds me of Christian Benteke.

Ignoring the insults about Scottish football being pub football, I accept it’s a step up to playing the PL. However Edouard scored for Celticbin big games including in the Champions League. His last season was poor by his standards. He still scored goals in a decent Celtic side but his already limited work rate became worse to the point where Celtic were glad to sell him. He has undoubted ability, but he’s never going to work like Jordan Ayew. If Glasner can get him scoring goals then he’s worth keeping but if not then he needs to move on in the summer. Complete Hogwash, Celtic are a mid table Championship team, at best, playing teams from league 2/ National league

If Edouard wants and is given the sole responsibility of scoring goals I am sure he'll produce however given the size of our club and the league it competes in, he will always be asked to do more and I am certain he has no intention of doing so. If the argument is therefore 'that's not his game/style/how he plays or best operates', so be it, that's fair enough, but he should probably be plying his trade elsewhere. That'll work nicely at Celtic and the opposition they play however won't cut it in a 'Big League'. If he adapted, sought improvement and stepped up a level he'd be a superstar for us but similarly to Benteke, again, I don't think that's going to happen.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

With Eze back, and Franca impressing I cant see Edouard getting a huge amount of game time now. As you said Nicholas91, in a team like ours, in a league like ours, strikers HAVE to do more. He's technically pretty good, can dribble and can finish. But he's much better suited to a slower league and in a team that has a load of the ball. If he was put up for sale for £10-15m, I cant see any other Prem team bidding for him, and that's telling. (That being said, we've seen with JPM that adding some desire and work rate can do wonders. So he could turn it around, but I doubt it)

In terms of facts , Celtic have played English PL teams in Europe 20 times, won 7, lost 7, drawn 6 including their last 2 results in the Champions League against Pep’s Man City where they drew 3-3 at home and 1-1 at the Etihad. Ange’s Celtic of last season would have given most PL teams a run for their money. Unfortunately they replaced him with Brendan Rogers and the current Celtic side would be in the PL relegation tussle for sure.

To try and be fair the position of striker is one of the most difficult to recruit and in my 50 plus years of supporting Palace we’ve had our share of duds. So on to Edouard. I’ve more or less given up on the idea of a 15-20 goal a season striker for us, at least in the Premier League, and would like us to to have a range of options to score from, e.g from midfield, the flanks, corners and set pieces.

Hopefully this can be remedied with Glasners appointment. I watched the Arsenal v Newcastle game at the weekend & the commentator happened to mention that when Arsenals 3rd or 4th goal when in Arteta could be seen congratulating the goal with his 'Set piece coach' I believe our set piece coach is our Goal keeping coach Dean Kiely !!

If Mateta can turn his game around then you have to hope that Edouard can do the same. It will be interesting to see what OG does with him and what he can get from him. In my opinion he doesn't play with the required intensity to be effective at Premier League level. Everything seems a bit half hearted with him. If he continues in the way he has then I think Palace should try and sell him in the summer.
