It does feel a bit like the priority is not to spend too much money with the development of the Main Stand in the background. the cash spent on Henderson and Franca doesn't look good at the moment either. Too many other players underperforming.

I think two or three loans might not be a bad idea though.

I often feel nostalgic about Palace and then I watch some of the highlights from the Eighties and remember just how awful our football was.

Enjoy the moment, older Palace fans know. I said to a mate I'm Palace through thick and thin he replied "I know all about the thin remind me about the thick".

all i want is too see Ozah, Ola-Adebomi, Mathruin, and Kaden Rodney on the bench, instead off Jairo, Mateta, Clyne and Tomkins (when and if he gets fit) that is why i want Paddy to take over after Christmas, so we can see if they have any talent, i dont say Paddy will be the new manager, but FFS, if i have to watch the old crap keep coming off the bench i will explode.

ZDS, play off wins, FA Cup Finals, anything more than just avoiding PL relegation seasons, wins over 'bigger clubs', wins over Millwall (cup recently), BHA, Watford and others we hold antagonism toward, probably a couple more but I'm afraid we'll only have a 'highlights reel' as opposed to a trophy cabinet.

Our current period, as you say Badger, may well come to an end some time in the future, perhaps sometime soon in the very near future, and these will be hailed as 'Glory Days'. Absolutely agree, we'll have sh!t runs as we look to have begun now and the mood and emotions will nosedive but overall, we must enjoy and savour it.

There is only forwards or backwards in the PL., standing still is just moving backwards on a smaller scale. To younger Palace fans they will only have seen an upward trajectory so it’s no good banging on about nostalgia to them because they won’t understand or appreciate it. That’s not being derogatory, it’s just what they are used to.

I would say 90% of supporters on here knew that the purchase of 3 or 4 players in key positions at the start of this season could have seen us challenging for the top half of the league, however there seems to be a self destruct button at Palace that gets pressed just as we get some momentum going. It’s almost like we don’t want to be too successful. No replacement for Wilf, no striker and no fullback has left us short and boy are we feeling it at present.

Personally I don’t really give a damn about how poor we were in the past. I remember some good football back then too but I am firmly fixed on the present as nothing is achieved by looking backward. Im not being greedy or over ambitious, I just want the Club to do its absolute utmost to get a decent squad together even if that means bunging a decent salary at 2 or 3 seasoned player loans to get us through injuries this January. Loans for a winger, striker and replacement for Doucoure would do wonders for us in the window.

Couldn’t disagree with any of this. And v fearful for next season when a few of the good players we do have will probably go, and we won’t see the league as weak at the bottom as it is now. We’re talking another hefty transfer kitty in the summer. Will it happen? Or the new stand? Or neither?

Report of the Luton match in today's Times is headlined:
[/b "No panic yet, but Hodgson formula is showing cracks"

and the report succinctly outlines the decline since the first few matches when we lost only to Arsenal. It queries the expensive purchase of Franca, criticises Andersen and Johnstone, and implies the manager's reluctance to use our stock of 'talented youngsters'
causing unease with the fanbase.

The reporter (Gary Jacob) must have been reading this thread .....

I disagree with the reply's to my OP, although everybody has their opinion, I hope and think Roy will retire before the end of the season and Paddy will take over as a temporary manager, and hopefully we will see more youner players on the bench, we will not get relegated 100%, Willo you say every year we are going down, The loan system, for some reason we dont use effectively, we can get 4 in for Jan, if wanted , The AFCON will only affect Ayew, as Doucoure is out for the Season, I think we should be looking at Andoni Iraola as a long term replacement, to me he fits the criteria, although i do think the job will go to Paddy.

I think you need to change the record regarding Paddy. He wont be taking over any time soon. Even if the unexpected were to happen and Roy went to Parish in January and said I've had enough (not going to happen) Parish would only use Paddy for one or two games until his new man is in place.
This is all hypothetical nonsense though. Roy wont break a contract. He'll be in place till the summer and then Parish will bring in his preferred choice. Sorry to disappoint. That wont be Paddy

I am not expecting Paddy McCarthy to be the next manager of our club.

I think Paddy will take over from Roy, only till the end of the season, and then a new manager will come in the summer
