He strikes me as having either an ego or ambitions that sometimes do not correlate with his post/ability. I say that without any criticism or animosity however just an observation.

Was massively to our benefit when he was scoring last minute goals at Stockport and not sure to what extent he was involved but the rebuilding of the team via Johnstone, Guehi, Andersen, Doucoure, Eze and Olise has been very welcome.

If he is quite stubborn and somewhat volatile however, and has ambition beyond Palace, you do worry about his potential to cause disruption and disharmony at the club.

If he goes, he goes as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure we will get over it/recover.

I don't think Dougie is even remotely like that in his present role.

I know it's Manchester United that's supposedly interested, but taking a job there would be a massive gamble. Freedman has got it good with Palace, and I think he knows it.

As a player, that's a different story. He was definitely self centred, but that's not uncommon in football.

I think he would be a very big loss; easy to forget, but he has essentially put together both the promotion winning team from the ashes of administration and the team of today with so many significant sell on values. His contribution to pretty much everything during the Parish era has been immense and he clearly has a very good eye for young talent.
In the Palace set up, he - along with Parish - is dealing with contracts, transfers, the academy and bringing through young players. So, its a very all encompassing role including dealing with the American owners.
I somehow doubt if he would have such influence at Man Utd especially given the turmoil of ownership issues. So, lets hope nothing comes of it - he would be extremely difficult to replace in my view.

It wasn't like he was a 17yr old kid, and you could excuse it. He was an adult, and a manager of a championship club. A job he only got because of his connections as a player.

To jump ship at the first opportunity is really poor, and shows a general lack of loyalty and decency.

It is one thing knowing about a player but a different matter altogether getting them to sign.

I think ego could have been the wrong word Neillo, perhaps 'ambition' if you like. Would be more context for me saying 'he takes himself seriously' which is something that can be very admirable in a person but also empower them to be very capable. It's wasn't intended as a 'dig', so to speak.

Perhaps even more context to my post would be to encourage others not to demand too much of Dougie purely off sentiment. If he receives a better offer, as many others would, he may take it. I'm not quite sure he'll be the next [insert famous and successful scout name] but he seems likely to go for it.
