I think the Tevez issue was more 3rd party ownership when he joined WH - But for sure with the amount of money involved in the game at PL level today the prospect of clubs taking legal action against each other or indeed the league governing bodies seems to become more likely as each season passes. I'd be very surprised if this penalty weren't at least reduced on appeal, given that the PL chiefs are a crowd of corrupt, self-serving cowards. (Or is it the FA? - the same applies.) This business brings back to mind the West Ham/Teves scandal of about 15 years ago. I don't remember the details but I think WH broke the rules when they brought Teves in with only a few weeks of the season left. He was widely thought to have saved them from relegation that season. They were given a £5m fine and a slap on the wrist. Wigan, Sheffield United, etc. cried foul, but WH stayed up and others got relegated.

Even we lost them. They should crack on, survive and move on. Sadly they won’t go down but I want them to. We did it so ashamedly we are the example to follow

We are 11 points clear of Everton now, after only 12 games. Everton playing very well but there will be bad days as well as good, and quite a small squad.

'Old ZDS Cup Final grumpy-chops' (N. Southall) commented that the decision is a good thing, because it allows Everton to draw a line under the affair and 'push ahead' under new owners. Basically he's reflecting what some HOLers have posted i.e. that Everton will do enough to stay up, so it won't be much of a punishment in any case; barring perhaps a few million in 'final position' prize money.

Agreed, although don't hold your breath as the hopelessly weak football authorities will probably cave in to any meaningful appeal and see the ten point penalty drastically reduced.

I’m sure if these others had really broken the rules as these have then they would be before the beak by now. Different events have a different outcome.

Also with the amount of media attention & claims that Newcastle now have the financial muscle to spend & outspend anyone else, they have been quite conservative in their transfer dealings since taking over - (purchases vs sales) OK its still a lot of money but they have not just gone out & bought whoever they wanted. Newcastles balance on transfermarkt - (Income vs expenditure)
Also Chelsea, s current investigation is I believe where they have reported themselves to FFP for expenditures under Abramovich , in other words they have taken the view that they are having a poor couple of seasons & if anything is going to happen to them as regarding points deductions & sanctions they want to get it out the way as soon as possible whilst gaining credit for offering themselves up in the hope that it will see them being dealt leniently when someone comes asking about the new owners / more recent expenditure records. Well the PL have opened a can of worms here ,will other clubs be punished along the same lines ,will clubs relegated due to Everton's cheating be looking at compo ? Regardless one win and they are out of the bottom 3 ,the judgement could not have happened in better season for them with some really poor sides 30 pts will probably be enough

Everton fans are complaining that the top 6 were only fined when they tried to join the European Super League. It's not a good comparison though. Everton cheated and knew they had cheated. As much as I despise the top 6 all they did was announce they were considering joining a break away league. It could actually be argued that the fines they received were unjust as the PL / FA is a monopoly and therefore anti competitive. Even if you don't agree with that view the point is that those clubs announced they were going to do something and then didn't so results were not affected. I hope Chelsea and City get done, I also hope that they completely review the FFP. The main goal should be to stop clubs spending money they don't have and then going bust e.g. Portsmouth bought the FA cup. After that I would like to see a simple spending cap which would be the same for each club. Palace of course would come nowhere near spending that cap limit but if we ever did get a rich owner we could compete with City and the like. Edited by Badger11 (18 Nov 2023 1.34pm)

Would I be right in saying that Everton admitted to the charges? Which is why they got deducted points? Whereas man city dispute the charges which is why they havnt been...yet?
