We have to keep the likes of Johnstone if we are to sustain or improve our status.

He is the future.

We have sold Wan Bissaka which was disappointing, but the club has no need to sell unless deemed necessary in order to better spend the money elsewhere.

We should sell when we want to sell.

A release clause is never advantageous to a club.

The only reason to have one is to be a more attractive move for a player.

Therefore the pressure for release clauses, whether they are proposed as an idea by the club or the player's side, ultimately emanates from the player's side.

A billion pound release clause is still less advantageous to the selling club than a theoretically infinite price that it could insist upon if it chose to.

As he was a free transfer having a release clause of £10m is advantageous to us. It stops him pushing for a move to get higher wages elsewhere, but at a smaller transfer fee, say £4mm

Completely agree, there's a few years of Johnstone yet. Could be England's no. 1.

Firstly Everton have got to sell Pickford for any realistic chance of Johnstone going there. Johnstone has only recently become a number one keeper, I can’t imagine he wants to take a step back and start warming the bench again as Pickford’s understudy.

Agreed - funny enough, Johnstone reminds me of Nigel Martyn. He was an outstanding goalkeeper for us.

And went to Everton !

He eventually went to Everton... We sold him to Leeds first.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!
