I guess Pat has to be silent, I would like to have heard his side.

I recall posting that Roy would still be our manager wheeled out in his bath-chair.

Will be interesting to see what SP has up his sleeve, off-hand I can't think of anyone with Roy's knowledge of football and Palace.

Roy should go with a pat on the back for a job well done. He's bound to revert back to type and bore us to death again if he had to manage for an entire season.

'Royball' is an unfair tag on Hodgson, he had players nearing the end of their careers, with Loftus-Cheek Bats and AWB we did play good football.

And he does let people express themselves.

But defence is the most important thing, looking for goals cannot be at its expense, there is only one exit, the championship.

If you'll pardon the pun.

If Roy wants the job with Paddy and Ray with him with 2/3 additions, to the existing squad, and the way we are playing it would be a massive gamble to get a complete outsider with his team of coach's taking over.

Good post, Canterbury. For the most part, I agree but a couple of observations.

Agreed, but the presence of excellent options on the market (albeit whether they're really excellent is a matter of opinion) means little. They have to want the Palace job, not just be available. So the issue won't be identifying good candidates. It'll be persuading them to take the job. You mention Brendan Rodgers; yes, he's available. Would he sign up for a club with a Palace-sized budget? I doubt it.

To me, if we announce Roy is staying for another year any time before an exhaustive search has been conducted, then that's a very clear sign that Paddy McCarthy has been earmarked for the job long-term and a year as Roy's assistant has been deemed the best way to transition him into the job. I wouldn't be all that surprised if that was the outcome (not that I'm saying it'd be a good idea. That's a debate for another day.)

For some reason it's not letting me quote your entire post but I do agree Syd. If we can't get anyone better and end up retaining Roy then I have no issue, I just want us to show some ambition and have a go really.

In terms of whether managers will want us, I think perhaps our biggest advantage is going to be lack of competition.

By my calculation, it is us, Spurs, Leicester, and Leeds who have interim managers, plus West Ham could sack Moyes.

However, given that Leicester and Leeds are currently in the relegation places and West Ham could yet win a European cup, there is a scenario where Spurs are our only real threat.

Of course anybody is going to choose them over us but they can only take one manager and with Rodgers and Potter without clubs, plus Slot and Postecoglou possibly options, I just feel as though we're in a good position.

Somthing was not right with the squad at the FA cup Southampton game. I couldn't.put my finger on it. You can say harsh run of games but every game in the league is a harsh game. I firmly believe if we hadn't made the change we would be thick in this relegation battle.

Would love a other year of Roy as with Roy I can sit back and relax with no relegation fears. Is he up to another full year of the premier league rigors tho?
