My mate wasn't saying he should be a shoe in but being the CEO of a large well run council which he got plaudits from other Tories for you would think that at least qualified him for the short list. But at the time it was more important to tick the boxes for race / gender / orientation etc rather than ability. Edited by Badger11 (08 May 2023 9.53am) Yep, a complete reversal of Conservative principles of merit. Remembering Conservative conferences of my youth and growing up....watching them now is like watching some kind of weird parody. William Hague is a good case in point. When he first came on the scene he seemed an actual conservative but he just got wetter and wetter as he went on.

On Saturday, i was the token CPFC supporter in the Bricklayer's Arms (the Tottenham Home supporters Pub). How I did it is secret. Their Choir was singing about Stamford Bridge falling down, Arsenal needing to return to Woolwich, and asking for Daniel Levy to get out of their Club, among other gems.

I have not seen any footage of the gesture but I, and others, can draw conclusions. Perhaps there are those, making assumptions as to the actions of the supporter, who deem that in their view it should not be filed under the category headed 'Racist' at all, whilst accepting that their view is at variance with the modern thinking. Fo the record I am an admirer of Son with his energy and dynamism and he has been a real asset to Tottenham. On that note, this septuagenarian duffer shall now retire to other threads and leave further contributions to this debate to others!

Years ago this kind of thing wouldn't even have been noticed. Now we have cameras everywhere to root out such heinous crimes to ensure that perpetrators are metaphorically hung, drawn and quartered.

Yep, this bloke is probably a wally, however unless people start pushing back they are just going to push this further and further. The guy who is now the leader in Scotland even wants to police what you say in your own home. Ever increasing control.

Legit question from someone who's never attended a PL game. Racist gestures aside, is this level of taunting typical? As Son walks past the Palace fans, scores of them are jeering at him – really laying into him, pointing and yelling in a personal way. It looks as if he's only 10-20 feet from many of them, though it could be misleading because of the long camera lens. Depends on the player, if for example it was James Ward Prowse or Jordan Pickford it would’ve been a lot worse, because they’re both rat faced little weasels and they like to wind the crowd up. I wasn’t there, but from previous experience and I stand corrected if I’m wrong, but Son was probably walking passed with a smug little grin on his face trying to wind the crowd up a bit (not condoning what the fella did of course)

Shouldn't they be looking for an independent coffee shop rather than an evil American Corporation who pay slave wages.

I'm not really clear what you are saying, are you saying it was better when racism was allowed to continue without scrutiny? Or are you saying the guy wasn't making a racist gesture? I'm not suggesting the guy should be stripped and whipped through the streets of Croydon, but the policy is zero tolerance on racism - it is written everywhere. He made a racist gesture, ergo he is punished. In all seriousness, what would you do? Not everything has to be an extreme, sometimes something is just wrong and it is punished.
