There has always been the "Clear and obvious error" factor, accordingly it has always been known that subjectivity would enter the equation. But VAR has disallowed goals for offside on the basis of a shoulder or toe which were neither clear or obvious.

Some calls are very marginal but trust is placed on the lines that are drawn from different angles. "Clear and obvious error" enters the equation in respect of a referee's decision with regards to a red card, penalty and mistaken identity. Edited by Willo (13 Feb 2023 1.03pm)

More than marginal. Particularly when the VAR official forgets to draw the lines. Can you imagine that happening in any other sport?

VAR should be withdrawn until the issue is identified and resolved. For such high profile, and high stakes matches to be officiated in such a way is ludicrous. A computer system with such flaws would be rolled back in any other environment.

It is quite amazing that over £100 million can be spent on individual players but then an official, with access to technology, can go 'Ooops, I drew the line in the wrong place for the offside' within the same sport.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

The VAR official who gave us the lifeline at the weekend has been removed from tonight's Merseyside derby duties.

Everyone knows that referees have a very tough job, made tougher by players' constant attempts to con them, but, as Spiderman said VAR has the advantage of repeats, different angles, slow motion, etc and yet still get it wrong.
I don't believe this I expect other factors are at play. The other strange one is why is a person drawing lines the computer system should be able to do this and if the three people are not happy can move it. I don't trust any of the system it's full of corrupt people which is why they hide them away and do not have to come out to public with a proper report.

The system used at the WC seemed impressive, with all the money in the game, you have to wonder why those in charge haven’t purchased it already.
