Another of life's great ironies. Roy is a hero for keeping us up playing the most awful football ever witnessed at Selhurst Park (the style of play was necessary chirp the sycophants) yet PV is a terrible clueless novice numpty for basically serving up the same gruel and leading us to a similar league position. Maybe one day we'll see some progression. Perhaps.

Vieira has a better squad bar roys 1st season.

What has changed as the season has progressed?
At the beginning of the season we were taking games to teams including City and Liverpool, Eze was looking good, Wilf was lively and Anderson was hitting killer 50 yard passes from the back.
However, post World Cup our players seem to be suffering from an almighty hangover.
In truth we’re fortunate to even get draws v Man Utd, Newcastle and Brighton.

I think we will improve when Zaha and Anderson return and hopefully we’ll have more competition in midfield with McArthur back and the two new additions.
I do wonder, however, if we have placed to much faith in Eze and Olise.
Very talented when the game is played on their terms with lots of time to dwell on the ball, but anonymous for most of the time with little influence on proceedings.
They will have to show significant improvement to fulfil their potential.

We never took the game to city or Liverpool, scored with our only couple of chances at City, Liverpool who weren't in great fettle we parked the bus and tried to play on the break,

If that’s your definition of the team being set up the correct way, I’d hate to see us set up in an incorrect way.
We haven’t played well, won games or even looked threatening post World Cup.
The methods utilised are not working and Eze and Olise are part of the problem.
I agree about collective weakness in work off the ball , but they at least are equally culpable in this area as other players.
Furthermore, in possession they’re not exactly setting the world on fire and need to make a demonstrable improvement.

They're not the problem, the team is set up to play in he correct way but we are at the moment totally unable to organise ourselves without the ball.

We played better and more threatening football at the beginning of the season than we are now.
You’re never going to dominate City or Liverpool, but at least we carried a material threat.
There was a sense of optimism, Eze was being talked of as a late World Cup candidate and Zaha showed some excellent form to go with his goals.
You must have been watching different games if you think we are playing in a similar way to the beginning of the season.
We carry minimal threat at present and rely on a goalkeeper mistake or a once in a season free kick to get on the scoresheet.

I was enjoying the season up until the Forest game, the only 2 games where I have felt we were really dire was Fulham & Southampton in the cup, we have since beaten a very poor Bournemouth & ground out some very creditable draws against some good teams, for sure we have ridden our luck at times & there are gaping holes in our squad which leave us exposed during times of injury or suspension, which have recently seen us struggle -

We will I believe still finish somewhere between 14 & 17 in the league largely because there are at least 3 teams with bigger problems than us - a decent summer transfer window will certainly go a long way towards revitalising the initiative -

For sure, we are vulnerable in the boardroom if H&B take their ball & decide to play up in Liverpool, Man Utd or some other top half boardroom team.

Let’s try and get this into perspective a bit , we are currently 12th in the table and clear of the relegation zone. We are 4 points behind Liverpool and 7 points clear of the relegation zone,
We are currently 1 point better off at this stage of the season than we were last season and we’ve already played Man U and Chelsea and Newcastle twice
We have been hit hard by injuries and managed to grind out an undeserved point against a side bang in form , same as we did against Man U and Newcastle.

I totally understand the worries supporters have with out of contract players etc at end of season but I absolutely wholeheartedly trust Steve Parish and there will be a plan,

I can’t believe some of the comments on here , let that sink in we are a point better off this season than last season.

The worst thing is with our fan base , if we go and beat Brentford on Saturday (at the end of the day they are due a loss and we are due a win so it’s totally plausible )all you lot will start thinking we can make a late charge for Europe ! I can see the posts now , but we won’t , we will finish comfortably mid table and I will be more than happy with that!

Just needed a bit of perspective I think , seeing some of the comments that the “players don’t care” etc ruffled me , you saw the relief and the celebrations when we equalised ,
I really hope we beat Brentford because I bet you my prediction will come true and instead of all this relegation talk there will be a thread started about Europe mark my words

You do realise we are 4 points worse off than we were after 22 games last season (29 to 25)?

Even so, I don't believe anybody who saw the game Saturday would espouse sentiments amounting to 'everything is fine':

- We've won only one game in 11 League/cup fixtures.
- We've scored 6 goals in that time, hardly any from open play, and conceded 15
- We've been knocked out of both cups.
- We have the lowest work rate in the League.
- Our last game against our rivals we had 26% possession, one shot on target, one corner, a goal against us incorrectly ruled out and we were gifted an equaliser, from a set piece of course, by a goalkeeping howler.

There's a difference between fierce uproar/moaning based on subjective or ill-informed, panicked emotion and making sincere points backed by evidence. Choosing blind optimism and rose-tinted viewing of things equates to the same as the former for me.

At the very least everything does seem precarious and the nature of a true football fan is to worry day to day let alone match to match on how things will play out. It is also expected that bad runs, let alone performances, will be met with scrutiny and complaint. There's plenty to be picked at of late and until improvement arrives I imagine will continue to be highlighted.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Indeed we had 24 pts after 22 games last season, but we had scored 31 goals, at present we have scored a paltry 20.

I believe it is the 'Direction of travel' in terms of the damaging statistics over the last 11 or so games and the abject performances which are alarming supporters. The optimism and the more progressive performances from last season have dissipated.

Last season we had a midfield player that contributed 8 goals. He hasn't been replaced.

In terms of '' Direction of Travel '', we have indeed seen some abject performances. We have also seen some improved ones, namely at Chelsea, home to Man U and Newcastle.

Palace are doing what they did before under Roy. Bank on surviving on the cheap and then have a reset in the summer. It's undeniably painful to watch and is a clear indication that very little progress has been made in the last decade.

A lot of focus has been on the managers performance, but I think more scrutiny of how the club is being run by it's owners is just as relevant
