Ok maple. Find out if she got compo and let’s discuss it again and wonder if there was an ulterior motive. She lets a bloke shag her, then realises she’s goner get in trouble so goes down this route. I know I’m right so prove I’m wrong ! How can you know you are right when the woman’s name hasn’t been released? There is no such thing as Criminal Compensation Board in Ireland As a matter of interest I have been a recipient of ‘compo’ as you call it. I didn’t feel it was a cause for celebration.

Lottery jackpot winner, Iorworth Hoare, did this sickening crime. Hoare had six previous convictions for rape and other sex offences, dating back to 1973, when he was convicted of the attempted rape of Shirley Woodsman. After release from his 'life' sentence, he went onto rape Shirley Woodsman in 1989. Woodsman passed away last year at the age of 92. Draw what conclusions you want from the specific case above, but even after conviction, sentencing (generally) appears so lenient that offenders often strike again upon release.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

Why do you think her name hasn’t been released ? This is because people who report sexual offences to the police are automatically given the right to not be named publicly for their whole lives.

I started this thread as I am genuinely interested in the issues rather than picking on individual cases or miscarriages of justice. Regarding the Scottish trial without a jury we have had a precedent for this for over a 1000 years and it is included in the Magna Carta. Of course this has always been for serious crimes rather than petty stuff. I was hoping someone might explain why a judge led trial would somehow be fairer? Are they saying that jury's make the wrong decisions? In which case why bother with a jury for any type of offence? I have already pointed out obvious flaws e.g. Judge will know the defendant's previous and will be aware of evidence that a jury would never see as it is ruled inadmissible so doesn't this not unconsciously bias the judge?

of course the Elephant in the room are all the pakistani Rape Gangs and the failures of our institutions to deal with them. Then there is Jimmy Savile. Then the refugee/asylum seeker organised gang rape in Berlin. Then the shocking rape statistics from Sweden.

Ok but that is a failure of investigation this thread is really about when a case comes to court.

Well it seems I'm not the only one concerned about abolishing jury trials for sex crimes. And I have my answer as to why this solution. According to the Scottish government ""The Scottish Government said: ‘The evidence that jurors are subject to preconceptions about rape is overwhelming.’"" Damn them pesky jurors of 12 honest men and women not coming up with the right decision. What next SNP? Abolish elections as the voters keep getting it wrong?
