That debut goal against the weed was worth every penny of what he has cost .
Hasn't worked out for him though has it , maybe a level to high and he will never be anything more than an expensive back up

New report surfacing today to say he's agreed terms with Galatasaray, subject to them agreeing a deal with Palace. A bit worrying this late in the window if this happens unless we are also about to pull something out of the ether.

To all his detractors, what's-a Mateta with you? Hey! Gotta no respect? What-a you t'ink you do, why you look-a so sad?
It's-a not so bad, it's-a nice-a place. Ah shaddap-a you face!

I have a soft spot for JPM, seems a decent fella and I think he has some value in front of goal. My overriding feeling however is that we do need better than him.

I would certainly sanction his departure if it meant we were bringing in a replacement. Wouldn't expect the replacement to be much better but you never know.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

What's got into you, Nick?
You expect him to be replaced if he goes?

JPM s about to come good imo, he needs more time on the pitch, only shot on goal against Newcastle needed a great save from Pope.

Hoping he will stay, its not a bad as Kouyate leaving but doesn't make much sense.

Same,

Always seams to be a positive chap whenever you see him on any of the palace videos.

He's also no dummy, having scored some goals in the Bundesliga and Prem. And that Brighton goal, you've got to have a bit about you to even think about doing that.

But at 25, I'm not sure we're going to see him kick on as we expected him to.

If it frees up some wages to go for Semenyo, its a no brainer.

Are Bournemouth selling Semenyo already? I knew it wouldn’t work out.

I choose fantasy over reality often DB but never quite as much as I do in a transfer window

Never rated Mateta or any of our forwards since Murray left. Be happy getting an in-form league 2 forward they couldn’t look more clueless in the penalty area than either of our front two. Whenever they do score it feels like a small lottery win. Meanwhile the rest of the team are left to try 20 yarders to get us a goal.

If Mateta could head it would be a different story. He is good with his feet but adds little as he rarely gets in a position to finish. I think that is because he doesn't have a full striker armoury. He should be the big lad on the end of lofted crosses.

We cannot afford a top class striker so we need one that hopefully will get 10-15 goals a season in addition:

They need to be able to play across the front and to be hard working Edourd doesn't graft enough and for a big man JPM doesn't rough up the centre halves enough for me.
