The anger for me and I suspect many Brexiteers is against those hypocrite MPs who blocked the legislation, thankfully the vast majority of the m quit at the next GE or were slung out on their ears. I had no problem with those MPs who in the Mrs May GE stood on a platform to defeat Brexit it was the scum that said they supported the result and then did everything they could to undermine it and democracy. You just don’t get it do you? Those MP’s were heroes. They stood up for what they believed in despite them knowing full well what the likely personal consequences would be. Parliament is sovereign, not referendums. If their conscience said the best interest of the country was not being served by proceeding in the way proposed they had a duty to follow their beliefs. That’s what we pay them to do. They aren’t mouthpieces for their electorates. They represent them, using their brains to do so. After 4 years of faffing about it was perfectly reasonable to ask that the people express their view on the arrangements being proposed, before Parliament took the final step of actually putting the plug. If it hadn’t been for the vanity of Corbyn that’s exactly what would have happened and then we would probably have avoided the mess it has caused us. Edited by Wisbech Eagle (11 Jan 2023 4.40pm)

No, a protest outside was fine, anything else was dumb and playing into the Democrat's hands. Semantics, Stirling. You seem to be putting a patina over that event that marks it out as a storm in a teacup promoted by lefties. Hard to buy that, I must say. Paramilitary organisation, walkie talkies over which instructions were sent out received, co-ordinated, militia style exercise. Surely, we didn't imagine this, did we? Was it all a plot to smear those right wingers? It's not my imagination and I'm not really laughing at all. Not at the events that unfolded, anyway but more about how perceptions can be so biased. Am I the only one on here who disapproves of this sort of tone?

It may surprise you to hear that I voted Brexit myself. There's no way I would refer to remainers as 'scum'. I quite understand many of the reasons why they wanted to stay in and, indeed, how jacked off they were to lose the vote. We need to desist, I feel, from 'scum' like comments over this issue. I have zero issue with anybody who voted Remain in 2016. They did so in absolute good faith with the accepted fact that if Remain achieved over 50% of the vote then we would be remaining in the EU. My entire loathing and disgusts falls on anybody who sort to stop the Leave victory being implemented. Every one of them are scum in my book and I have cut many such people out of my life altogether. It is hard to articulate how much I detest them on so many levels.

It is hard to articulate how much I detest them on so many levels. When our security forces advise our government that a concerted disinformation campaign has been mounted by malign players from outside our shores to influence the way people vote. When there are grave suspicions that at least one of the local campaign groups are also involved. When the majority of our own representatives voted the opposite way to the majority. When that majority was only wafer thin. When after 4 years of wrangling the people were much better informed about the decision involved. When all these things are taken together it was a duty placed on our elected representatives to act, even if it involved getting up the nose of people like you. Those who did so were heroes, who deserve statues and not the scorn of the blinkered. Their time will come. The righteous generally triumph in the end. The wheel will turn. Maybe too late for me to witness it but I trust our youth to rectify the stupidity of Brexit. I will see out my days watching what used to be my great country suffer from entirely avoidable, self inflicted wounds.

It is hard to articulate how much I detest them on so many levels. How did the people in your life attempt to stop the leave victory being implemented? It's not a healthy outlook to view them as scum or say that you detest them. I'm not sure that a lurch to then heralding other dodgy or possibly undemocratic goings on in Brazil or wherever as wonderful makes much sense in that context either. It seems to me that you likely have been upset with the direction of society anyway, and were simply waiting for an opportunity to convince yourself that you can cast democracy aside - while imaginging that you held the principle, the moral highground prior or last. It doesn't look like anyone has benefited. Nowadays people often consume a media diet that gradually poisons them. Whether MSM or Online. In my view over recent years it's the online environment that has really set some onto a path that transforms them from decent, thinking people to off the deep end, all-in caricatures. Regardless of where the needle sits, those who would hope you mend these bonds have a healthy view, and those who are happy to propel you in a direction that fosters your rage or ignores such damage are simply making use of you for their own purposes. That might ultimately be a better way of orienting than left-right, brexit-remain, this-that. Where life is only viewed through a political lens, that is all it will ever be.

It's just that people aren't poisoned. They make a conscious decision to absorb the utter tosh they read/view. Or perhaps I grant people with too much intelligence to be able to do that Edited by MrWhyNot (11 Jan 2023 11.54pm) Maybe the same happens in Brazil > Edited by Forest Hillbilly (17 Jan 2023 6.45am)
