See my answer to other posters. It is satire to make a point. I have sympathy for any family when some dies but this over the top generation of pseudo grief says more about the political structure we live in than anything about the deceased person.

TV news bulletins are 95% about it. There is a crisis affecting everybody about energy, cost of living, NHS, a massive war in Europe, strong possibility of a massive radiation escape etc but the death of a 96 year old is deemed overwhelmingly more important. If Putin said he was going to send a nuclear bomber here it would only be a footnote at the moment.
The newspapers have no news in them just a load of grovelling. If someone who was a combination of Steven Hawking/Mother Teresa/President Zelenski died I would not expect this mech coverage3746529]

I can't help but feel that much is made of a difference between autocratic countries and the current version of the west.

While I recognise a difference the truth is that it's also narrowed considerably to what some protray.....ask a Canadian trucker about their bank account and jailing or a lockdown protestor about their bruises.....western states do a fair amount of political persecution themselves and that's recognised by liberty organisations.

I agree with your point that the establishment in any country....regardless of its type.....uses propaganda through institutions and the media to promote approved group think and 'other' opposition to it. This is true anywhere you look in the world and if we are honest with ourselves we have to recognise that.

Just a thought on maj. How can the prolific wrong un Jimmy Saville plus epstien both get into the inner circle of the royal family. Would Saville and epstiens hobbies not have been made aware to the royal family and maj. I think they would have been.

I was showing the hyprocricy of how the UK media (rightly before anyone says anything) criticises Rusia and N Korea because of their constant adulation of the leaders of those counties but does not see that is what they do here in relation to the monarchy.
For the avoidance of doubt I was not saying that the Queen was like a North Korean dictator. The point is the absurdity of the reaction to her death.

1) Indeed I have heard of satire and I read none in your ridiculous post . That is my subjective opinion.

2) If only you could spell countries, hypocrisy and Russia, or are you pretending to be an idiot in a satirical way.

and for the sake of completeness you have NFI what happened in North Korea when the last leader died adding to the general sense of ignorance and stupidity of your original post.

Googling Swift does not make you somehow clever or satirical.

Moving on from your nonsense.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Personally I think things so far have been done with great dignity as opposed to the weird outpouring of emotion when Diana died.

.

I agree.

The way things have been handled has shown us at our best. The emotions are genuine and shared across all strands of society. The stories are heartwarming and amusing.

I worried that this time would quickly become repetitive and boring which might taint her memory, but I was so wrong. It’s continually fresh and uplifting.

My own feelings of loss and thankfulness are replicated everywhere. This is a huge milestone in all our lives and one that could become a positive turning point for us.

I think you have shot yourself in the foot there. If I didn't know anything about Johnathon Swift's famous essay, why would I google his name?

My apologies for the typos but if that is the best you can come up with I have not got much to worry about.

I think I had an argument with someone on this board about the IRA / Republican supporters and their close ties with the Nazis before and during the second world war. They didn't believe it.

It is a part of Irish history that is airbrushed especially by Sinn Fein who are rightly embarrassed about it.

That is not to say that many Irish men did not fight bravely for Britain and against fascism just that some had the attitude my enemies enemy..

I could write a whole essay on this - being a personally researched area of mine.
There were surprisingly few Irish who fought for the Nazis at all - or even helped them. Tens of thousands fought for Britain and the US. It's not even hundreds for the Nazis.
The reasons are complicated. The main reason for not fighting for the Nazis was Hitler and Catholicism and the Pope. It was not some kind of sense of Nazi atrocities. Hitler used to hassle the Catholic church and the Irish were well aware of it. The Pope denounced Nazism as a cult - and that was enough for most Irish.
Ireland loved Mussolini - for similar reasons - gave the Pope the Vatican etc.
A lot of Irish were recruited from prisoners from the BEF. Many were in Nazi special forces as English speakers. The guys you see with Skorzeny in The Battle of the Bulge movie would have likely been Irish recruited that way. My own personal feeling is that you can't be too harsh on someone who gets out of prison that way - when after all, there was no particular love or loyalty to Britain.
Skorzeny and many others ended up in Ireland, shielded by the government - Ireland should be more ashamed of that and their turning away of the Jews at the beginning of the war, than anything during. In fact, Ireland used to drive downed British aircrew to NI in covered trucks. They kept the Germans in the Curragh military camp. Remember, Dublin was bombed "accidentally" as it were.
