Genuine question, no point scoring, but I wonder whether anyone who has argued that VAR and the ref were correct is now having second thoughts, following Mason's suspension. I'd be particularly interested in the views of one of our members (respected by me), who has traditionally been very supportive of officials (to the annoyance of many on here) and who I think expressed his support for them earlier in this thread. He maybe 'suspended' from all VAR duties this w/e, thats only because he is officiating in the EFL. Oh, & if you Willo, why not say so, that way he can reply Nes Pas?
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

I don’t know who you want to hear from. But in answer to your question, I really don’t think so . And this is the problem , you either think Mitchell could have pushed their player not just forward but upwards at a rate of knots, merely by touching him, or you don’t.

I stand by my viewpoint that any contact Mitchell MAY have made with Willock was not sufficient enough to propel him into Guaita who was clearly fouled.Lee Mason with the benefit of VAR and able to review the incident several times concluded there was a foul on the keeper but of course there are polarised views which have been well aired.

In this case the Chelsea goalkeeper plays the ball but is then fouled / late tackled and is clearly hurt! Having reviewed both Newcastle and west ham goals again I still find them both correct decision! I don't know it has been announced by the pgmol or whatever they call themselves that they were incorrect decisions. Perhaps media pressure or money?

I thought the Chelsea GK let the ball get away from him, realised immediately he had made a clanger, when Bowen clipped him on the way through he saw it as a way of getting something out of the situation & exaggerated the knock in an attempt to hoodwink the ref which succeeded- Same as Jotta did against us to win the penalty - lost the ball & jumped into Vincente to try to recover the situation, hoodwink the ref.

I haven't seen the incident yet Dermot Gallagher had his two pennorth, saying that the Newcastle goal shouldn't have been given because of the foul on the goalie. However, the correct decision should have been a penalty in view of a foul by Mitchell just before the goalie was clattered. The decision therefore boils down to whether Mitchell did or didn't commit a foul. Gallagher thinks he did, whereas the referee, influenced by VAR, thinks he didn't. The comment by Staveley about "we are discussing [how games are referreed] with the officials" perfectly demonstrates how the Premier League is run, for the benefit of the most wealthy and therefore influential (i.e. corruptly, as we've long suspected).

Actually, the decision boils down to were anything up to 3 N'castle players offside when the ball was played in....but no-one else is talking about that except Hol

However, I read elsewhere that the offside claim had been debunked on HOL. The fact is that VAR/the ref DIDN'T disallow the goal for offside; it was disallowed for the foul on the keeper.

Edited by Willo (07 Sep 2022 8.35am) I strongly disagree Willo. I would like physicists, biologists et al to come out en masse and explain why a 6ft6" man was rendered incapable of arising following a faint glance from Bowen's foot. His condition of being 'prostrate' was as much a choice as anyone going to bed at night. If you choose to kip in the middle of a football game any ire should be directed at you, not any insignificant incident you to try to justify invented dramatics.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
