To take an objective view of the window and be critical doesn't make you a bad fan or lead to be condemned as needing to go and support another team.
We have gaps in the squad which have not been addressed.
I'm not suggesting we overpay but we have missed out in the past through haggling over e.g Watkins (10m at the time) and Downes (2m at the time).
We were supposedly at it again last night with Edwards and had the Peterborough owner outlining our approach.
You can argue it's all about good negotiation, but if you've done your due diligence and are convinced of a player's potential and fit for the club it's not effective negotiation if you don't end up getting the target.
Last year we did very well in the market but in my view this year we have not.

Forest are ridiculous and I hope they go down because of it.
We needed to strengthen though because it is necessary to keep moving forward in this league whether we like it or not.
Time will tell of course but going defensive against Brentford at home when leading and on top generally doesn't have a good look to it!

Sorry Dolphin but this is a case of the kettle calling the pot black. Until Forest set the new record this window, Palace held it when we brought in 18 players in the summer window after being promoted 9 years ago.

A year ago, almost to the day, Forest were bottom of the Championship and rather like us surprised everyone including themselves by getting promoted. It should also be noted that 15 players (including 7 loanees who had to go back to their parent clubs) left Forest in this last window.

We have a good first team when everyone is fit & able to play - once we get below that we have a couple of players who are of the same / similar level, however below that we have quite a few more that are not, in short we don't have the strength in depth needed to be confident of safety this season, which is one of the reasons that clubs reinforce their playing staff every year whenever possible - its my belief that injuries & suspensions will be our undoing this year -

Exactly this. Only 11 games until the World Cup. Truth is that this squad is good enough until the end of the year and we don't want to waste a lot of money now not knowing what we will need in January.

Agreed we don't splash the cash but remember we have been in administration twice in the last 30 years or so. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe any of the other current EPL teams have been in administration once.

However, I would add that we did need extra bodies in the case of injuries. If this current 11 stayed superfit all season I wouldn't worry about anything and enjoy the ride. But if Schlupp has a bad injury Luka could be a regular starter (don't know why Hughes is seemingly being overlooked).

Definitely snookered Dolphin there.

I feel a bit disappointed, even though I told myself not to get suckered into the usual suspects saying "2-3 signings by deadline" which has proven unfounded time and again.

The news went very quiet about a week ago which should really have told us all we needed to know. It seems from what reports there were that we were going for Gallagher, AWB, Sarr and Edwards. Three of those the clubs decided they didn't want to sell. With Edwards their chairman has said he insisted on having him back on loan and wanted more money. That doesn't sound like a great deal for us given our limited resources and we'd have been no better off this season. Also, it seems unlikely his value will go up in League One.

Maybe Chelsea and United strung us along, maybe Sarr was too expensive (I like him but he's not really a 25m+ player at the moment). We'll probably never know. I do think the club probably wants to avoid burdening the wage bill with high earners, which might have also been an issue in attracting more high profile names. It's all speculation now.

In terms of positives at least we have Doucoure who looks like a star in the making. I also like the look of Ebiowei, even though he's down the pecking order. If Wilf, Olise and Eze all stay fit they'll provide us with entertainment. Maybe one or two of the youngsters may even step up and be the next AWB or Mitchell.

I think last summer showed that when Dougie is given money he can land our targets. Blame the board.

I am sure that the transfer team tried hard but sadly we have been left weakened by our lack of activity.
I hope that teams like Forest get relegated because I dislike their kind of activity but other rivals appear - on the face of it - to have bought wisely and have strengthened whilst we have stood still.
Without doubt we needed a new midfielder and maybe a forward - the rest is fine.
The other point is that the team sometimes needs a bit of a boost with a new arrival.
I firmly believe that we put too many eggs in the Gallagher basket only to be foiled at the last minute.
I also believe - and said so weeks ago - that Gilmour would have been a good fit for us but instead he has gone to Brighton.
Time will tell whether that will work but I suspect he is an astute purchase for them.
Our main midfield central pairing of Eze and Schlupp in front of Duocoure (who is brilliant by the way) - is not equipped to deal with this League game after game and so, unless Jmac is due back soon and fighting fit for the season then we will be very weak all the way to January.
I hope to be proved wrong and eat much humble pie of course!

The levels of interest/discussion on Hol does not necessarily reflect those of the management.......

Completely agree. We haven't got money to waste so we need the be sensible.

To be fair I wont lose sleep over Edwards. Good, useful money for a league 1 team. But he wont be in the first team so wouldn't have made an immediate impact.

The 2 that I'm still surprised about is

Aouar - if there was any truth in the fee mentioned, and the fact that there are connections to the club it 'could' have happened. If Eze gets injured we are lacking in central creativity.

Gilmore - at 9m it feels like good business for a young, industrious midfielder.

We still have a good first team, but are 1 injury away from Luka playing, which isn't a comforting thought. And not offering Kouyate a 2 year contract now looks like a bad move.
