It's interesting to note, however, that our biggest threat of relegation was our first season back in the Prem (13/14) when he wasn't with us at all. He's an icon, of course, and deservedly so, but our avoiding relegation can also be attributed to several other players. Edited by Cucking Funt (25 Aug 2022 9.22pm)
so many here with rose tinted specs when it comes to Wilf if he was such a super star he wouldn't be at Palace it's that simple a big team would have taken him and who was it the only offer came in for him Everton no more needs to be said.

What were you doing in the Oxford end? Did you take it??!! Lol, just like the ol' days, eh? Taking the clock end at Highbury etc. No, I read about the difficulties Palace fans were having getting hold of the (no doubt) limited number of tickets, and so I decided to apply for a 'fan number' from Oxford United, which then allowed me to buy a ticket, but obviously not in the Palace section. Based on the map of the stadium on the ticket buying site, I chose the last seat before the line of stewards and then the gap next to the Palace fans, so I wasn't far away from the lads and I got a good lung full of the smoke from the flare that went off when the opening goal went in!

Proposals: Rename Norwood Junction "Zaha Centrale" Annoint the stroll up to the ground "Zaha Way" with impressions of Wilf's footsteps in glittery gold Place a statue of Wilf next to that of saviour Roy, together in perfect harmony But first let him retire gracefully after a fine career at the club.

A bit harsh ... he was priced out of a move by a club that needed him. He's currently in his best form perhaps for a few years and an integral part of a decent team. Long may he stay.

Clever, using a French word to reflect the language of Wilf's country, the Côte d'Ivoire.

If you can't enjoy Zaha why do you watch football and, more specifically, Palace? What do you get out of it?

A fine, fine player & possibly our best player ever. Cannot help feeling we have always missed a trick with him because with a little bit more adventurousness in the Premiership and playing him as a central striker off a big man, he would have scored even more goals.

For the previous couple of close seasons I wasn't particularly concerned about Wilf going. However, with his new found goal scoring consistency, I think we would miss him. Wilf and Conor between them scored something like 22 goals last year and it begs the question as to without this pair where the goals will come - Mateta, Edouard, Ayew? Probably not. Eze and Olise? I'm not sure. I know he has been inconsistent in the past, and we often get fed up with his petulance, but, unless we can bring in a decent goal scorer, his departure would leave a big gap. I for one would be very sorry to see him go.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
