They made hard work of that especially as Oxford are injury-plagued and, apparently, started a couple of 17 year olds. Not much creativity in the starting midfield and I'm guessing Phillips didn't show much of the box-to-box ability he can produce at the U-21 level
Rodney is only 17 and was played out of position. Looked, from the highlights, like he put in one good left-footed cross

No he is not! Luka can't hold the ball for a second to save his life.

He is a midfielder with no holding skills whatsoever - that is why we need one as no one else in the present midfield has this skill.

Again, your opinion of his effectiveness at his position doesn't negate the fact that that is in fact his position.

It wasnt set up for Philips. we are crying out for a creative midfielder who can have a range of passes

Bloody awful these days, those woeful passes.. move him on PV..
thank you for all the good times LUKA, but this level is beyond you. Their number 14 on loan from Leeds, I thought at times was better than Luka & Hughes(wasnt he quiet)combined...

He still knows how to take penalties.

That was Lewis Bate, whom I saw playing for Leeds last season.
He hails from Sidcup and in the past has been nicknamed the 'Sidcup Seedorf'.

He doesn't have to do a great deal of running to take a penalty.

Better than Zaha does . It was a great strike . I think Luka still can play a part for us this season . Okay he is not the player he was but does a good job when comes on a sub. Shame you cant bring on a kicker to take penalties like in the American football .

Phil Alexander was a kicker for teams in 'American Football'.

Luka has done well when he has come on for us this season - early days I know - but his passing has been good.
He can still be effective and I doubt that PV would bring him on to cock things up so he trusts him and that is good enough for me!

Listen, I'm traditionally a Palace pessimist. But I went to the game last night (registering as an Oxford fan so as to get a ticket!) and came away fairly happy. Sure, we didn't set the Thames alight, but I'm not sure what people expect from a side with 9 changes that includes 3 debutants. Sure, some of our team didn't perform at their best, but no-one could be said to have had a poor game. Oxford were "plucky" but we dealt with them with ease. As I've already posted, numerous promising moves by the Palace midfield were snuffed out by Oxford players "taking one for the team".

I'm happy, period; but even more so when you compare last night to our recent 2nd round debacles.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

By the weekend we'll have forgotten this game ever existed.
